Berns Tree Services LLC is seeking to fill ten (10) temporary, full-time seasonal Groundskeeper positions for October 1, 2026 to April 15, 2027. Worksite: 10997 Shadow Creek Ct, Sterling Heights, MI 48313 and multiple sites in Macomb, Oakland and Wayne.
Job Duties: Shovel snow, grounds maintenance, such as litter cleanup and winterization of irrigation systems, and other duties as assigned related to facilities maintenance, such as clearing facilities of sticks, leaves, snow, or related debris. Potential for fall and spring clean-up, including raking, mulching, and composting of leaves, removal of dead plant material, mowing, perennial plant cutbacks, landscape bed mulching, and dormant pruning from the ground level. De-icing and removal of snow from walks, driveways and parking lots for various residential and commercial properties, using hand tools such as snow brooms, shovels, and spreading de-icing solutions, including calcium chloride or rock salt by hand. May also use walk behind electric or gas snow blowers, as needed. Will not drive snow plow. May drive crew vehicle. No driver’s license is required as a condition of employment for the position. If the prospective worker already possesses a standard, noncommercial driver’s license they may be asked to drive a vehicle to job sites, as needed.
Requirements: No education or experience required.
Special Requirements: Must lift/carry 50 lbs., when necessary. Saturday and Sunday work required, when necessary. Work hours may include nights and overtime during emergencies and winter storm conditions. Must be able to perform manual, physical labor outside during all weather conditions (hot, cold, rain, snow, etc). Must be 18 years old. Post-hire post-accident drug testing required of foreign and domestic workers at no cost to workers.
Terms and conditions of employment: $19.93 - $26.00/hour, 35 hours/week, Overtime available at $29.90 - $39.00/hour. Mon-Fri, 7:30AM-5:30PM. Employer will use a single workweek as its standard for computing wages due. Employees will be paid weekly on Friday. Raises and/or bonuses may be offered based on individual factors including work performance, skill, and tenure. Workers will be provided with daily transportation to and from the worksite in compliance with all applicable Federal, State and local laws and regulations. On the job training available. Workers will be provided, without charge or deposit charge, all tools, supplies, and equipment required to perform the duties assigned. Workers will begin each day at the worksite address. They will then be transported, free of charge, to properties located throughout the area of intended employment to provide services. They will then be transported back to the worksite address at the end of each work day.
ER (employer) will make all deductions from EE’s (employee) paycheck required by law & no others without consent. If needed, ER will assist in arranging optional worker-paid lodging for foreign & non-local U.S. EEs. ER may deduct FMV cost of rent & utils based on # of occupants, up to $120/wk, for EEs who voluntarily elect ER housing. Voluntary advances, if any at ER discretion, may be repaid via pre-auth payroll deduction or cash. ER provides 1st uniform set free; add’l uniforms optional & may be deducted. EEs may drive shared co. vehicle home; tolls/traffic fees may be deducted. ER provides incidental transport btw worksites, not daily transport btw home & main worksite. All transport complies w/ laws & regs. ER offers optional health insurance; voluntary after 60 days. ER pays $50/mth if EE opts in; premiums may be deducted. ER adds $50/yr of service, up to $500/mth. EEs accrue 1 hr pd sick leave per 30 hrs worked, max 72 hrs/yr per MI Earned Sick Time Act.
The employer will reimburse an H-2B worker in the first work week for all visa, visa processing, border crossing, and other related fees, including those mandated by the government, incurred by the H-2B worker. From the place from which the worker has come to work, whether in the US or abroad, to the place of employment, if the worker completes 50% of the work contract period, the employer will provide advance payment for transportation and subsistence (including meals and to the extent necessary, lodging) from the place of recruitment to the place of employment. Upon completion of the work contract or where the worker is dismissed earlier, employer will provide or pay for worker’s reasonable costs of return transportation and subsistence back home or to the place the worker originally departed to work, except where the worker will not return due to subsequent employment with another employer. The amount of transportation payment or reimbursement will be equal to the most economical and reasonable common carrier for the distances involved. Daily subsistence will be provided at a rate of $16.78 per day during travel to a maximum of $68.00 per day with receipts. Three-fourths guarantee: The employer guarantees to offer work for hours equal to at least three fourths of the workdays in each 12-week period of the total employment period. Tools, equipment and supplies: The employer will provide workers at no charge all tools, supplies, & equipment required to perform the job.
