EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
Required:
Associate degree or equivalent postsecondary credential in Automotive
Technology, Fleet Management, Business Administration, or a related field
(equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of a degree)
Michigan recognized certification in diesel engines, heavy-equipment repair,
or a related field
Knowledge of and experience with diesel engines, braking systems, electrical
systems, computerized diagnostics, preventive maintenance, school bus
safety equipment, and applicable state and federal inspection requirements
Three (3) to five (5) years of experience as a diesel mechanic
Preferred:
Three (3) to five (5) years of experience as a school bus mechanic
ASE School Bus Technician certification
School-bus-specific training involving air brakes, electrical systems,
wheelchair lifts, safety equipment, emergency systems, and applicable
inspection requirements.
Demonstration of ongoing manufacturer, diagnostic-equipment, workplacesafety, and regulatory training.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, and REGISTRATIONS
Valid Michigan teaching certificate
Applicable administrative certification or eligibility to obtain appropriate administrative
certification.
