A practitioner with a level of knowledge, skills, experience in dietetics practice necessary to be an advanced Registered Dietitian professional, demonstrating consistent excellence and empowering others to grow and improve their skills; informal leader.The Registered Dietitian's primary responsibilities include direct patient care through application of the Nutrition Care Process (NCP) including the completion of the nutrition assessment, determination of the nutrition diagnosis, developing nutrition focused, evidence based interventions (including the nutrition prescription, example: diet/feeding order) and nutrition monitoring and evaluation; and provides nutrition counseling and education for both inpatient and outpatient populations.The advanced RD is highly skilled in multiple elements, such as, expertise in a variety of patient care areas or an expert in a high acuity care area; communication skills; and confidence in advocating for patients and nutrition therapy with the interdisciplinary team and within the organization and has demonstrated these skills consistently over many years.Practicing at the top of their scope of practice demonstrated by achieving national recognition as an expert in the industry or adding other high level value factors.Confidently and respectfully collaborates with patients and the interdisciplinary team to provide exceptional care. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships and contributes to a culture that aims to provide safe, high quality care.
Essential Functions
Advanced and self-leading RD demonstrating consistent excellence and empowering others to grow and improve their skills; informal leader. Identifies with and adheres to the code of ethics for the dietetics. Performs Nutrition Care Process and Nutrition Focused Physical Exam as appropriate for high quality patient care. profession. Documents and maintains records according to the SOP for the RDN, legislation, regulations and organization policies. Precepts and teaches dietetic interns and other students, such as medical students.
Assesses patient/caregivers, interdisciplinary team, RNC residents, and community (patient population) education needs and develops, implements, evaluates and revises teaching strategies and programming.
Coordinates planning, implementation, evaluation and/or services for patients or the community in area of accountability in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team. (example: coordinating home enteral tube feedings). Makes recommendations to improve safety and quality of care.
Completes continuing education credits if specialty focus area and/or advanced practice areas annually. Consistently reads and applies learnings from published research.
Drives programs, services or curricula that impact focus area of dietetics or promote optimal patient care.
Communicates, collaborates, networks and acts as a consultant to those within and outside our organization. May engage in communication and interactions with the media on issues related to the focus area or other advanced clinical areas
Specific to Rehabilitation & Nursing Centers (RNCs), the Registered Dietitian is to collaborate with Manager, Nutrition Services at least 4 hours every 60 days.
Leading/mentoring/educating team members through practice changes and assessing competencies or developing team members in research, quality improvement or leadership skillsORLeading department or interdisciplinary level projects; Leading projects involves defining the problem, identifying stakeholders, identifying metrics, creating communication and education plans and reporting on results, evaluating effectiveness
Practicing at the top of scope of practice and demonstrated by (minimum of 2 required yearly):Achieving national or state recognition as an expert in the industry; National or state recognition includes awards, invitations to speak at conferences, sitting on boards, or publishing research or quality improvement work at least once every five years.Creating patient/community focused programming and revenue generating education opportunitiesCreating new practice opportunitiesIdentifying philanthropic opportunities to support program objectivesSeeking grant funded opportunitiesDeveloping materials that may be purchased by other organizationsParticipating in creating national guidelines, standards, or practice manual contributionsPresenting at national continuing education eventsWriting full TPN ordersPlacing nasoenteric feeding tubes
Qualifications
Required
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field; exempted from Masters requirement by virtue of existing status prior to the Jan 1, 2024 Commission on Dietetic Registration update.
Master's Degree in Nutrition, Dietetics, or related field; master's degree required when registration with the Commission on Dietetic Registration is effective on or after Jan 1, 2024
7 years of relevant experience in nutrition and dietetics in a focused area of practice holding a specialty certification OR
15 years of relevant experience in nutrition and dietetics to be an advanced practitioner in a varied scope of practice areas
