Job Summary
Location: Lansing, MI
This position is responsible for the safe and efficient operation and maintenance of all energy related assets located within a central utility complex at the GM Lansing or GM Delta Complex. Assets include Air handling Units, Chilled Water, Cooling Tower, Thermal Storage, Compressed Air, Hot Water and Wastewater Treatment.
Work is performed under the direction of the Plant Management or Lead O&M Technician.
Key Accountabilities
*Perform all station shift operation and maintenance, including startup and shutdown of main plant components and auxiliaries
*Perform operations in accordance with established SOPs and job safety standards
*Respond to abnormalities and take corrective actions consistent with established operating procedures and good engineering practice
*Conduct routine tours of the plant to inspect equipment; provide feedback to management and other employees
*Comply with all site safety requirements and procedures. Identify safety hazards and take corrective actions as necessary
*Maintain accuracy of shift operating logs in Plantlog, records, timesheets, work orders and other administrative documents related to plant operations
*Perform plant switching and tagging of equipment in accordance with approved procedures and prudent operations and maintenance practices
*Perform mechanical inspections, troubleshooting, and maintenance tasks
*Investigate plant issues, incidents, accidents, and unusual events, and provide analyses, recommendations, reports, and appropriate follow-up plans
*Conduct Contractor / Visitor Safety Orientations in accordance with Company Policy
*Facilitate pre-job briefs with staff/contractors to ensure worker safety and DTE policies and procedures are followed
*Active participant of the site safety team/committee
*Develop, assist, and revise operations and maintenance related procedures
*Perform and maintain housekeeping standards and duties
*Perform routine preventive and predictive maintenance on all systems and equipment; support corrective maintenance efforts on selected equipment when properly trained
*Communicate with other company personnel on site and at other locations
*Represent the company in dealing with the customer, vendors, contractors, regulators, and other non-company personnel under the direction of Management
*Assist other team members and work with all departments to support the operation in achieving its goals
*Work scheduled and unscheduled hours and respond to off-hour call-ins
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent
Possess a valid state driver's license and have a good driving record
Basic computer skills and proficiency with MS Office applications
Ability to read and write effectively in English and to do basic mathematics
Knowledge of and experience in Standard Operating Procedures, Pre-Job Briefs, Job Hazard Analysis, Risk Assessments and LOTO
Four (4) years' experience in the operation and maintenance of Centrifugal Chillers, Compressed Air, Boilers, Water Treatment, Cooling Towers, Air Houses and Gas fired equipment, Wastewater Treatment
Knowledge of power plant mechanical and electrical equipment, including motors, pumps, fluid systems, chemical handling, water treatment systems, AC and DC electrical distribution and control systems and associated maintenance functions
Experience using CMMS and Cimplicity HMI, PLC controls is preferred
Ability to complete site specific written qualification program
Knowledge of chiller plant safety, policies, and procedures, especially in areas such as chemical handling, high energy systems, confined spaces, incipient fire suppression, first aid, rotating machinery, and heavy equipment
Knowledge of and ability to understand fundamental principles related to physics, mathematics, AC & DC electrical theory, heat transfer and fluid flow, thermal dynamics, and chemistry
Knowledge of and experience in the following: pipefitting, welding, machining, rigging, rotating machine repair, fabrication, machine alignment, basic vibration analysis, and using electrical test equipment
Knowledge of chemistry and Chiller plant chemical applications. Ability to operate valves, switches, controls, keyboards, and other devices associated with power plants
Ability to use basic hand tools, portable electric and pneumatic tools, and basic rigging equipment such as winches, hoists, and slings
