Position Summary:
The Academic Interventionist serves as a building-level instructional leader responsible for coordinating the school's Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) and providing targeted academic interventions in reading and mathematics for students in grades 3-6. This position collaborates with teachers, administrators, support staff, and families to ensure students receive appropriate levels of support and have access to high-quality instruction.
The Academic Interventionist supports teachers in strengthening Tier I core instruction through evidence-based practices, data analysis, and classroom intervention strategies. The position also coordinates Tier II and Tier III interventions, monitors student progress, and supports district initiatives related to literacy, mathematics achievement, and compliance with Michigan Public Act 146.
Qualifications:
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate.
- Reading Specialist, Mathematics Specialist, or related endorsement preferred.
- Training in the Science of Reading, Structured Literacy, MTSS, and evidence-based mathematics practices preferred.
- Knowledge of literacy development, mathematics learning progressions, dyslexia characteristics, and intervention strategies.
- Experience analyzing assessment data and progress-monitoring results.
- Strong organizational, communication, collaboration, and leadership skills.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provide targeted Tier II and Tier III interventions in reading and mathematics for students requiring additional support.
- Deliver small-group and individual instruction based on student needs and assessment data.
- Implement evidence-based literacy and mathematics interventions designed to accelerate student achievement.
- Maintain accurate records of intervention participation, progress monitoring, and student outcomes for Child Study Team meetings and Individual Reading Improvement Plans (IRIPs)
- Coordinate and oversee the implementation of the school's MTSS framework and intervention systems.
- Facilitate MTSS, intervention, and student support meetings to ensure data-based decision making.
- Develop and maintain intervention schedules and systems that maximize student access to support services.
- Monitor intervention implementation and effectiveness across grade levels.
- Collaborate with school leadership to align intervention practices with district goals and school improvement initiatives.
- Collaborate with grade-level teams to develop and monitor Tier I intervention strategies.
Assessment, Compliance, and Continuous Improvement:
- Review screening, benchmark, diagnostic, classroom, and state assessment data to identify students requiring intervention and monitor student growth.
- Administer approved assessments and progress-monitoring measures as assigned.
- Support district implementation of Michigan Public Act 146 and other applicable district, state, and federal requirements related to academic intervention and literacy instruction.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, families, and support staff to develop intervention plans and communicate student progress.
- Analyze student and program data to evaluate intervention effectiveness and recommend improvements to instructional practices, resources, and professional learning opportunities.
- Maintain accurate documentation and contribute to continuous school improvement efforts.
