Supervises office support staff to assure optimal patient process flow. Serve as a liaison between physicians and clinical staff in daily operations. This includes responsibility for charge processing, A/R follow up, cash processing, patient flow, and maintenance of scheduling system and patient medical records. Develop and implement policies, process improvement initiatives and customer satisfaction initiatives and provide follow up and metrics. Orient and train office support staff and ensure competency. Interacts and communicates in a manner considerate of age, culture, and developmental needs. Serve as clinical back up within the practice to assist as needed, when applicable with clinical skill validation.
Oversees appointment scheduling and patient registration, medical records, and business correspondence, coding and charge entry for Neuroscience Center including:15 physicians and 5 Advanced Practice Providers. Oversees office staff in obtaining authorizations for all visit services and professional charge entry, department work queues, physician education, maximizing reimbursement and for all databases. Maintains department specific functions relating to the Charge Master. Directs and coordinates billing to meet all formats required by insurance carriers. Human Resource Management: Interviews, hires, manages, and evaluates employee performance. Develops and implements physician education, process improvement and customer satisfaction programs and initiatives. Develops and maintains comprehensive training programs and reference material to ensure adequate training of new staff as well as maintain/enhance the skills of existing staff. Reviews/evaluates monthly statistical reports and makes recommendations for revenue cycle initiatives and to include corporate initiatives, i.e. Meaningful Use, PQRS and PCMH. Compliance with Regulatory Agencies, process improvement activities and other duties as assigned. Maintain, review and adhere to Beaumont Health System policy and procedures on a continuous basis. Receive and resolve patient concerns with physicians and/or other staff within or outside the department as indicated. Attend monthly, quarterly and annual divisional meetings and coordinate regular office staff meetings.
Associate degree or equivalent work experience in physician office setting. Bachelor degree preferred. Five (5) years of experience in at least two of the following areas: appointment scheduling, patient registration, medical records, charge entry and/or billing. Two (2) years of supervisory experience. Two (2) years of experience with a practice management computerized system. Excellent interpersonal skills. Develop and lead process improvements and monitor outcomes. Must exhibit behaviors associated with the Beaumont Standards of Service, Ownership, Attitude and Respect.
