Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Senior Electrical Systems Engineer to support utility system planning, outage coordination, and power system reliability initiatives. This role is responsible for conducting engineering studies, performing system analysis, leading cross-functional teams, and coordinating complex shutdown and outage schedules across the electric utility system.
This is a contract opportuniyt with a hybrid work model based in Detroit, MI.
The ideal candidate will have strong utility industry experience and proficiency with power system analysis and planning tools such as CYME, EMS, PSSE, or TARA.
Note: Utility, transmission, distribution, or power systems experience is required. Automotive electrical engineering experience is not considered equivalent.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform power system studies and analysis using CYME, EMS, PSSE, and/or TARA.
- Partner with System Study Engineers and Project Schedulers to maintain accurate long-term shutdown and outage schedules.
- Lead outage coordination meetings, schedule reviews, and daily operational huddles.
- Coordinate complex and back-to-back shutdowns across multiple regions and stakeholders.
- Develop engineering solutions to improve system reliability, safety, and operational performance.
- Provide operational feedback to improve EMS system models using real-time measurements.
- Lead cross-functional teams consisting of engineers, technicians, operations, and field personnel.
- Champion continuous improvement initiatives focused on outage optimization and resource coordination.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, Construction Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field.
- Minimum 6 years of utility industry experience.
- Experience with CYME, EMS, PSSE, or TARA.
- Familiarity with:
- Energy Management Systems (EMS)
- State Estimator (SE)
- Contingency Analysis (CA)
- N-1 operating practices
- Ability to provide operational feedback to improve EMS models and system performance.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's Degree in Engineering or related field.
- Experience supporting or maintaining State Estimator applications.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
