GENERAL PURPOSE
The Recreation Assistant is responsible for clerical work and record keeping under the supervision of the Recreation Director. The Assistant also performs custodial duties at the Civic Center and other recreational facilities. In addition, the Assistant provides labor support to the Recreation Skilled Laborer as needed to maintain the City’s recreational assets.
SUPERVISION RECEIVED
The position is supervised by the Recreation Director or his or her designee.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The following are examples of duties commonly associated with the Recreation Assistant position. The following list is not all inclusive, and an employee in this position should expect other duties to be assigned.
-Direct and train part-time and seasonal employees.
-Compile Civic Center and Marina reports. Maintain department records.
-Collection and accounting for payments for various City revenue sources, including Marina slips.
-Ensure that compliance is made with MIOSHA regulations and/or requirements. Maintain first aid supplies for recreation facilities.
-Clerical work as it pertains to the Civic Center Facility and the Recreation Office.
-Develop and administer recreation programs.
-Direct Civic Center Attendants and enter timesheets.
-Update and maintain marina/recreation web pages. Monitor the recreation Facebook page.
-Maintain the Civic Center facility to include cleaning and maintenance. Replace light bulbs. Clean, sweep, scrub, mop and paint interior and exterior surfaces including windows.
-Replenish and order Civic Center and recreation program supplies.
-Perform ground maintenance including snow removal, mowing, litter pickup, maintenance of trees and flower beds.
-Empty wastebaskets and transport trash and waste to disposal area.
-Set up tables and chairs in meeting rooms.
-Request and maintain insurance certificates.
-Replace and order filters throughout the Civic Center facility.
-Maintain the City’s recreational assets, to include the essential functions as performed by the Recreation Skilled Laborer when necessary and as directed by the Recreation Skilled Laborer.
