Position Summary
Central Michigan University is seeking a Director of Student Involvement to provide leadership, strategic planning, fiscal management, and operational oversight for Student Activities and Involvement (SAI). Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs, this position advances student engagement, leadership development, wellness, community building, and student success initiatives.
The Director supervises professional and graduate staff, oversees student organizations and fraternity/sorority life, manages major campus events, supports risk management and crisis response efforts, and develops partnerships across campus and the community. The position also leads fundraising and advancement initiatives to support student involvement programs.
Key Responsibilities

Provide strategic leadership for Student Activities and Involvement.

Supervise department staff, including:
-
Support registered student organizations (RSOs), fraternity and sorority life, and student leaders.

Oversee major campus programs and events including:
-
Mainstage
-
Homecoming
-
Greek Week
-
Siblings Weekend
-
Develop and implement risk management and hazing prevention strategies.

Manage student engagement initiatives, officer training, peer mentoring, and leadership development programs.

Oversee student payroll, funding allocations, and student government advising support.

Manage the Engage student engagement platform and analyze engagement data.
-
Collaborate with campus partners regarding student conduct, behavioral concerns, and crisis response.

Develop and manage departmental budgets.

Serve on university committees and represent Student Affairs as needed.

Secure and maintain external funding through advancement efforts.
Required Qualifications
-
Bachelor's degree in Higher Education, Educational Administration, Student Affairs, or related field.

Five years of progressively responsible higher education experience.

Extensive experience with:
-
Crisis management
-
Risk reduction
-
Conflict resolution
-
Restorative practices
-
Experience with student development, community engagement, and event planning.

Demonstrated success in:

Strategic planning and implementation

Student learning outcomes assessment
-
Team leadership and supervision
-
Program development and evaluation

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as necessary.
Preferred Qualifications

Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Educational Administration, or related field.

Seven years of related professional experience.

Experience managing compliance and risk reduction programs.

Knowledge of:

Experience creating holistic student development opportunities.
Work Schedule
-
Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.
