Position Summary
The Gaming and Technology Academy of Saginaw (GATA) is seeking a Bus Aide to join its founding team for the Fall 2026 school opening.
The Bus Aide assists school bus drivers in providing safe and efficient transportation services for students traveling to and from school and school-sponsored activities. This position plays an important role in maintaining student safety, assisting with loading and unloading procedures, monitoring student behavior, and supporting transportation operations.
The ideal candidate enjoys working with children, communicates effectively, and is committed to maintaining a safe and positive transportation environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Student Transportation Support
- Assist in the safe transportation of students and passengers.
- Support students during loading and unloading procedures.
- Assist students entering and exiting the bus safely.
- Monitor student behavior and ensure compliance with transportation rules and expectations.
- Remain alert and attentive to student welfare throughout transportation routes.
- Communicate regularly with students and bus drivers regarding transportation needs and concerns.
- Report student behavior issues or transportation concerns to supervisory personnel.
Vehicle Safety and Operations
- Assist with pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
- Notify transportation management of any vehicle concerns or safety issues.
- Assist with emergency evacuation drills and emergency procedures.
- Help students safely exit the bus through emergency exits when required.
- Assist with opening and closing service doors as needed.
- Support bus drivers when backing vehicles or maneuvering in limited spaces when necessary.
Communication and Compliance
- Adhere to all school, transportation, local, state, and federal policies and regulations.
- Attend required safety meetings, training sessions, and informational meetings.
- Maintain confidentiality of student information in accordance with FERPA regulations.
- Communicate professionally with students, families, staff, and transportation personnel.
- Complete assigned documentation and reporting responsibilities as needed.
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist in maintaining a safe and clean bus environment.
- Support transportation staff in carrying out daily operational duties.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Understand that job responsibilities may evolve to meet operational needs.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Valid Driver's License required.
- Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with children preferred.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated reliability and strong attendance history.
- Ability to work effectively with children of all ages.
- Ability to remain calm and professional during stressful situations.
- Early morning and afternoon availability preferred.
- Commitment to student safety and a safety-focused work environment.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to fifteen (15) pounds.
- Ability to assist students entering and exiting the bus multiple times per day.
- Frequent sitting with periods of standing and walking.
- Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling.
- Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl as needed.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions and temperatures.
- Ability to see, hear, speak, and respond appropriately in emergency situations.
- Ability to perform duties requiring fine motor coordination and dexterity.

- Successful completion of any required drug screening.
