Position Summary
Teachers First is seeking a Building Substitute Teacher for The Gaming and Technology Academy of Saginaw (GATA), a new public school opening in Fall 2026.
The Building Substitute Teacher will support the Academy's instructional program by providing classroom instruction in the absence of the certified teacher. The successful candidate will help ensure students continue progressing toward Michigan academic standards while maintaining a positive, structured, and engaging learning environment. This role requires strong communication skills, adaptability, and the ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and families.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Facilitate instruction for assigned classes and support effective student learning.
- Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the classroom teacher.
- Establish and maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning.
- Utilize a variety of appropriate instructional strategies to support student success.
- Maintain student grades, assignments, and attendance records as required.
- Follow established classroom procedures and school policies.
- Collaborate with teachers, administrators, and support staff to ensure continuity of instruction.
- Attend staff meetings, professional development activities, and training sessions as assigned.
- Promote positive student behavior and classroom management practices.
- Support the Academy's mission of academic excellence, engagement, and innovation.
Qualifications
- Minimum of sixty (60) college credit hours required.
- If assigned to a core academic discipline, must possess a corresponding major reflected on official transcripts.
- Bachelor of Education degree preferred.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively manage a classroom and build positive relationships with students.
- Ability to adapt quickly to varying classroom assignments and instructional needs.
