Position Summary
Teachers First is seeking a PE/Health Teacher for The Gaming and Technology Academy of Saginaw (GATA), a new public school opening in Fall 2026.
GATA is designed to provide a highly engaging educational experience where academics, technology, creativity, competition, and real-world learning come together through gamified systems, hands-on experiences, and strong student relationships. The PE/Health Teacher will play an important role in promoting physical wellness, healthy lifestyles, and student development while supporting the Academy's mission of preparing students for lifelong success.
The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of Michigan Academic Standards, instructional best practices, and effective classroom management techniques. This individual will be responsible for creating engaging physical education and health instruction that encourages students to develop healthy habits, teamwork skills, personal responsibility, and overall well-being.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan, prepare, and deliver engaging Physical Education and Health lessons aligned with Michigan Academic Standards and school curriculum goals.
- Create instructional activities that promote physical fitness, healthy decision-making, and lifelong wellness habits.
- Utilize technology and innovative teaching methods to support and differentiate instruction.
- Encourage and monitor student progress and adjust instructional strategies based on assessment data and student performance.
- Provide additional support and intervention for students requiring assistance.
- Collaborate with fellow educators to enhance curriculum, instruction, and student outcomes.
- Communicate regularly with students and parents regarding academic progress, participation, and student needs.
- Establish and communicate clear learning objectives for all instructional activities.
- Manage student behavior by implementing effective classroom and activity management procedures.
- Maintain discipline in accordance with school policies and procedures.
- Utilize formative, summative, and interim assessment data to guide instructional decision-making.
- Develop assessments that effectively measure student proficiency and growth.
- Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, and personal responsibility.
- Participate in school initiatives and contribute to GATA's innovative educational model.
Qualifications
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with appropriate Physical Education and/or Health endorsement(s).
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- Master's Degree preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years of teaching experience.
- Must meet Highly Qualified Teacher requirements as defined by applicable state and federal guidelines.
- Ability to develop and deliver curriculum for assigned grade levels.
- Strong classroom management, communication, and organizational skills.
