The Project Manager / Estimator at Ferndale Electric is responsible for both estimating
electrical construction projects and managing them through execution. This dual-role
position requires a balance of technical estimating skills and the ability to coordinate field
activities, vendor communication, documentation, and financial oversight. The successful
candidate will contribute to both the pursuit and delivery of projects with professionalism,
accuracy, and leadership.
Key Responsibilities
Estimating Responsibilities
· Present a professional image of Ferndale Electric and represent the company with
integrity.
· Seek appropriate estimating opportunities aligned with company goals.
· Review and understand drawings, specifications, and project front-end documents.
· Prepare detailed and accurate estimates using company software and standardized
forms.
· Participate in pre-bid meetings and job walks when appropriate.
· Contact vendors for equipment/material quotes and maintain vendor pricing
relationships.
· Prepare complete scope letters, identifying inclusions, exclusions, and clarifications.
· Submit estimates on time and log them accurately in the estimating log board.
Project Management Responsibilities
· Organize awarded estimate, quotations, and bid documentation for handoff.
· Prepare and submit Job Start Forms, CR Logs, permits, and all required kickoff
documentation.
· Coordinate and lead project kickoff meetings with foremen, field staff, and internal
stakeholders.
· Review detailed work scope, phasing, tooling, material needs, and schedule with
foremen.
· Identify prefabrication opportunities and implement when feasible.
· Issue purchase orders and coordinate major equipment and subcontractor
procurement.
· Coordinate working drawings, submittals, and maintain a status log for subcontractors
and materials.
· Track project schedule and provide timely notifications for delays or changes.
Field and Financial Coordination
· Visit job sites to understand progress, field needs, and project performance.
· Provide timely and accurate documentation and information to the field team.
· Prepare and submit monthly billings as described by contract terms.
· Quote and process change orders and maintain up-to-date records of all revisions.
· Review invoices for accuracy and approve for payment against project budgets.
· Attend internal PM meetings and report on job status with accurate data.
Qualifications and Skills
· Minimum 5 years of experience in the electrical industry or a related college degree in
construction management.
· Proficient in estimating and project management software (e.g., Accubid, Procore,
Bluebeam, etc.).
· Excellent organizational and time management skills with ability to manage multiple
priorities.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with clients, field staff,
and internal teams.
· Working knowledge of electrical systems, construction processes, labor forecasting, and
material management.
· Ability to read and interpret construction documents and specifications.
