CNC Machinist Levels I, II & III

Job Overview
We are exploding with new and returning work — and we’re looking to add CNC Machinists at all experience levels to support continued growth. Located in Bay City, Michigan, we machine large, precision components for aerospace, defense, energy, and industrial customers.
This is a large-format machining environment, not repetitive small-part production. We offer a stable workload, strong programming support, and opportunities to grow your skills as demand continues to increase.

What You’ll Do
(Duties vary based on skill level and experience)
CNC Machinist – Level I
- Operate the following styles of milling machines
- CNC – Small Gantry Style 3-Axis (101 inch X 138 inch)
- CNC – Medium 3-Axis Vertical Milling Centers (38 inch X 98 inch)
- MANUAL – Gantry Planer Mill (128 inch X 500 inch)
- Load materials and position workpieces correctly
- Set and verify work and tool offsets using the following traditional methods
- Edge Finder
- Paper/Shim
- 1-2-3 Block
- Test Indicator
- Perform in-process inspections using calipers, micrometers, and indicators
- Monitor cutting conditions and report tool wear or machine issues
- Follow drawing, job travelers, and standard work instructions
- Maintain clean and safe work areas
CNC Machinist – Level II
- Operate the following styles of milling machines or lathes
- CNC – Medium 3-Axis Vertical Milling Centers (38 inch X 98 inch)
- CNC – Horizonal Boring Mill 3-Axis (157 inch X 315 inch)
- CNC – Medium Gantry Style 3+2 Axis (167 inch X 448 inch)
- CNC – Vertical Turret Lathe (225 inch Swing)
- Perform moderate-complexity setups, including large-part setups
- Machine surface plates, frames, and commercial-grade components to +/- 0.005in tolerances
- Set and verify work/tool offsets using the following traditional methods
- Edge Finder
- Paper/Shim
- 1-2-3 Block
- Test Indicator
- Run established programs; perform minor G code edits for speeds, feeds, or offsets
- Perform and document in-process inspections
- Communicate process or program concerns to Level III machinists or programming
CNC Machinist – Level III
- Operate the following styles of milling machines or lathes
- CNC – Medium Gantry Style 3+2 Axis (167 inch X 448 inch)
- CNC – Large Gantry Style 3+2/Full 5-Axis (228 inch X 659 inch)
- CNC – Vertical Turret Lathe (225 inch Swing)
- CNC – Vertical Turret Lathe with C/Y-Axis Live Tooling (225 inch Swing)
- Perform complex setups on large-scale machined components
- Machine aerospace and complex commercial grade components to +/- 0.001in tolerances
- Set and verify work/tool offsets using the following traditional methods
- Edge Finder
- Paper/Shim
- 1-2-3 Block
- Test Indicator
- Edit and troubleshoot CNC programs independently
- Optimize and communicate machining strategies for efficiency, accuracy, and tool life
- Solve complex machining, fixturing, and quality issues
- Mentor and support Level I & II machinists
- Work closely with programmers and engineering as needed
Extensive programming support is provided — machinists work from pre-established programs and setup sheets.
Experience & Qualifications
We are hiring across multiple levels; exact requirements depend on skill level.
CNC machining experience:
- Level I: Entry-level or 1+ years CNC experience
- Level II: 2–5 years job shop CNC experience
- Level III: 5+ years advanced CNC machining experience
- Ability to read and interpret manufacturing drawing and job instructions
- Working knowledge of G & M Code
- Ability to set up, operate, troubleshoot, and change tools
- Experience machining large-scale or large-format parts is a strong plus
- Strong GD&T interpretation skills preferred (Level II & III)
- Heidenhain, Siemens, and Fanuc Controllers
- Manual machining experience is a plus
Shift Details
- 1st Shift: Monday–Friday, 6:00 AM – 4:30 PM
- 2nd Shift: Monday–Friday, 4:30 PM – 3:00 AM (Includes 10% shift premium)
