Role Summary
The Clinical Dietitian is an essential member of the multidisciplinary healthcare team and provides patient-centered nutrition care. This includes assessing nutrition needs, developing and implementing care plans, evaluating outcomes, and applying current research to practice. The dietitian collaborates closely with providers, patients, caregivers, and families to support positive health outcomes.
This role uses a team-based approach and evidence-based guidelines to deliver high-quality care that is culturally responsive and supportive of diverse patient needs. The dietitian also participates in patient, community, and staff education and contributes to improving the health and well-being of the community.
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Dietetics or Nutrition

Master’s degree required for individuals becoming Registered Dietitians in 2024 or later

Completion of an ACEND-accredited supervised practice program

Credentialed as a Registered Dietitian or Registered Dietitian Nutritionist by CDR within 6 months of hire

Additional certifications may be required depending on department needs, including CDCES and insulin pump training for Diabetes Education
Clinical Responsibilities

Utilize nutrition screening criteria and review medical records to identify patients at nutritional risk

Conduct comprehensive nutrition assessments using intake data, anthropometrics, labs, and clinical observations

Develop and document individualized nutrition care plans

Monitor patient response and adjust interventions as needed

Maintain current knowledge of dietary guidelines and standards of care

Assess teaching needs and develop patient-focused education plans

Participate in discharge planning and continuity of care

Provide follow-up support, including phone outreach when appropriate

Review records and collect data for process improvement and compliance

Additional competencies may be required depending on practice area, such as motivational interviewing or MNT/DSME billing

Strong computer competency, including EMR use and Microsoft Office

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
