Job Description
General Motors is seeking a manager-level IT Systems Engineer to lead the implementation of a new enterprise-wide SaaS application supporting our frontline manufacturing teams. This role will lead the team responsible for engineering, deployment, operations, continuous improvement, and innovation, ensuring delivery of a scalable, reliable, and effective solution. A key focus of this role is transforming how frontline employees use technology to communicate, work, and engage, while advancing the integration of emerging technologies, including AI.
The ideal candidate is an established, hands-on leader with 10+ years of relevant experience, deep technical expertise, and a proven ability to guide teams, partner across technical and business organizations, and drive execution in a fast-moving environment. This person brings strong systems thinking, sound engineering judgment, and the ability to translate business needs into scalable, enterprise-ready solutions.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the systems engineering function for a new SaaS application, including application ownership, support strategy, deployment execution, and innovation in partnership with a product manager who will identify, establish, and map the roadmap
Manage and develop a team of systems engineers and technical contributors, setting priorities, removing obstacles, and supporting employee growth
Serve as the technical and operational lead for the SaaS application environment, ensuring application performance, reliability, security, supportability, and operational readiness
Partner with business stakeholders, product owners, vendors, and internal technology teams to define requirements and deliver solutions
Lead vendor management activities, including participation in contract negotiations, license management, and implementation of new capabilities and innovations
Drive platform enhancements, integrations, configuration changes, and process improvements aligned to business objectives
Establish and maintain governance for the application, including change management, release planning, issue resolution, risk mitigation, and operational discipline
Monitor production health, troubleshoot complex issues, and lead problem resolution efforts across teams
Create and maintain technical documentation, operational procedures, and support models
Ensure solutions are designed and implemented in alignment with GM standards for architecture, security, compliance, and operational excellence
Communicate clearly with leaders and stakeholders on priorities, timelines, risks, and outcomes
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in engineering, information technology, computer science, or a related field, or equivalent experience
10+ years of experience in systems engineering, enterprise applications, SaaS platforms, or related technology leadership roles
5+ years of experience in a people leader role, with responsibility for leading, developing, and coaching technical teams
Deep technical expertise in system design, application support, integrations, configuration management, and production operations
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results in a cross-functional environment
Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills
Experience working with vendors and business stakeholders to translate needs into technical solutions
Proven ability to lead through ambiguity and drive accountability across a complex organization
Experience deploying software applications in a complex environment
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in engineering, information technology, computer science, business, or a related field
Experience supporting SaaS or enterprise applications in a complex business environment
Experience implementing applications such as WorkJam, YOOBIC, Flip, Movo, Zipline, Connectteam, RedeApp or similar within a large enterprise environment
Experience with enterprise integrations, identity and access management, and data interfaces
Familiarity with Agile delivery practices and product-based operating models
Experience with change management, release coordination, and operational governance
Background working in a large enterprise environment with multiple stakeholder groups
Understanding of the manufacturing environment
