Controls Engineer - Automation & PLC Systems
Overview / Summary
We are seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to support manufacturing operations through the development, troubleshooting, and improvement of automation and control systems. The ideal candidate will have strong PLC programming and troubleshooting experience, along with exposure to robotics, manufacturing automation, and industrial control systems.
Key Responsibilities
Develop and implement improvements to control systems and equipment using Factory Information Systems (FIS) data
Lead problem-solving activities related to equipment performance issues
Troubleshoot equipment, automation, robotics, and control system downtime issues
Coordinate resources to identify root causes and implement corrective actions
Assist in training manufacturing personnel and plant electricians
Support integration of controls into IT and manufacturing systems
Use plant monitoring software to review equipment cycle times and performance
Review and coordinate project installations
Reprogram equipment for engineering changes and process improvements
Maintain backups for machinery and automation programs
Program new automation, machinery, material handling systems, and robots
Participate in equipment safety evaluations and risk assessments
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
5+ years of related controls engineering experience
Experience with:
Error proofing
Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC)
Troubleshooting and problem solving
Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP)
Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
Experience with PLC controllers such as Siemens, Rexroth, and Allen-Bradley
Strong leadership, interpersonal, teamwork, and communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively with maintenance teams, vendors, and process teams
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Engineering
Experience with:
Lean Manufacturing
Six Sigma
Electrical systems
Robotics and automation
Siemens Step 7 and TIA Portal programming/troubleshooting
Siemens power line and solution line configuration/programming
Machining and automation equipment controls troubleshooting
Familiarity with UL508A requirements and NFPA79 standards
Strong written and verbal communication skills
