The Qualification Testing (ICE and BEV) team operates within the Vehicle & Propulsion Controls organization and is responsible for ensuring validation coverage, software quality, and diagnostic robustness across propulsion programs.
The Senior Powertrain Systems Validation Engineer plays a key technical role in developing and executing validation activities, supporting validation strategy, and ensuring highquality software delivery. This role works closely with the Validation Project Lead to drive comprehensive testing, issue resolution, and systemlevel validation for propulsion control systems.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop and execute Design Verification Plans (DVPs) for propulsion system requirements, ensuring thorough validation coverage at the subsystem and system level
Critically evaluate requirements for testability, completeness, and potential gaps, and support refinement efforts with engineering stakeholders
Define and implement test strategies for assigned systems, including identification of critical scenarios, edgecase maneuvers, and failure modes
Determine and execute validation activities using appropriate environments (HIL, vehicle, SIL, bench) based on test objectives
Conduct validation testing across propulsion architectures using HIL and vehicle platforms, ensuring accurate and repeatable results
Perform detailed issue investigation and preanalysis, supporting efficient root cause identification and resolution
Collaborate crossfunctionally with Controls, Diagnostics, Calibration, and Validation teams to resolve issues and improve system performance
Support validation status tracking by providing clear reporting on test coverage, results, and technical risks
Contribute to continuous improvement of validation methodologies, DVP quality, and test efficiency
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field
5+ years of experience in powertrain controls validation, verification, or embedded systems development
Experience developing and executing Design Verification Plans (DVPs) for propulsion or automotive systems
Strong understanding of propulsion systems (ICE and/or BEV), including sensors, actuators, and control strategies
Hands-on experience with HIL and vehicle testing environments, including test execution, fault injection, and issue investigation
Proven ability to perform root cause analysis and contribute to issue resolution
Experience working in a cross-functional engineering environment (e.g., Controls, Calibration, Diagnostics, Validation)
Strong communication skills and ability to clearly present test results, validation coverage, and technical findings
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Computer, or Systems Engineering
Strong system-level understanding of both ICE and BEV propulsion architectures
Experience supporting development of DVPs and validation strategies across subsystems or programs
Experience selecting and utilizing appropriate validation environments (HIL, vehicle, SIL, bench) based on test objectives
Knowledge of OBD diagnostics, DTC strategies, and regulatory requirements (e.g., SAE J1979, J1699)
Familiarity with functional safety concepts (ISO 26262) and safety-related validation requirements
Experience designing and validating edge-case scenarios and failure modes in complex control systems
Demonstrated ability to drive technical issue investigation and collaborate across teams to resolve complex problems
Experience with ALM tools (e.g., DNG, Quality Manager) and requirements-to-test traceability
Ability to assess and communicate validation coverage, technical risk, and test status to support program decisions
Experience working in a multi-program development environment with competing priorities
