Application Engineer II
AVL Test Systems Inc. is looking for an Application Engineer II to add to the Plymouth, MI team. The position will focus on AVL's electrification market including but not limited to battery testing/emulation, inverter, eMotor and eAxle testing. Qualified candidates must possess a minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, including component level battery experience and/or electrification experience. The role requires system knowledge at an expert level and is an opportunity to be a part of a the fast-developing topic of inverter and E-Motor for electric vehicles. The Application Engineer II will design, integrate subsystems and commission test systems to meet complex testing requirements. In addition, they will troubleshoot complex problems and develop solutions. Qualified candidates must also have working experience in the automotive industry and as well as a high electrical aptitude to succeed in the position. In addition, candidates must be able to take charge of projects once on-site and drive to completion while working with a Project Manager to manage cost and time estimates. The Application Engineer II will have ownership of large complex test systems and must have excellent customer service and communication skills.

Roles:
Act as liaison and company representative with customers.
Commission test systems including:
Setup and troubleshoot test and measurement systems
Implement and tune complex control loops
Integrate auxiliary equipment into test systems
Setup monitoring and control of relevant safeties
Create commissioning documentation
Provide training on system applications
Obtain customer sign-off
Write and implement complex custom tests
Provide sales technical support.
Provide project engineering technical support.
Help desk consultation.
Develop and present advanced training.
Technical research.
Travel required.
Other tasks as assigned
Qualifications/Skills:
Bachelors' degree in engineering or equivalent
Master's degree in engineering or equivalent preferred
3-5+ years' experience in relevant field required
Proficient in mechanical and electrical assembly
Proficient in vibration analysis and torsional vibration analysis
AVL Software experience
Experience in test automation equipment preferred
In depth understanding of electrical and mechanical processes
Expertise related to testing methods and applications
Able to read and understand electrical and mechanical schematics and drawings
Strong software adaption and modification skills preferred
Background in electrification (battery /eMotor / eAxle), power electronics or mobility research
Experience with programming or testing of inverter drives for AC and DC motors preferred
Understanding of instrumentation and electrical processes
Must possess excellent written and oral communication skills
Thorough knowledge of PC operation, structure, MS Windows, and computer networking require
