Senior Backend Software Engineer - Java/Kotlin & GCP
Overview / Summary
We are seeking a Senior Backend Software Engineer to design, develop, test, and support scalable backend applications and cloud-based services. This role involves building APIs, microservices, and distributed systems while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver reliable and maintainable software solutions.
This is a hybrid role requiring 4 days per week onsite.
Key Responsibilities
Engage with stakeholders to understand use cases and technical requirements
Design, develop, and maintain backend applications, APIs, and microservices
Build and support cloud-based and on-premise applications
Collaborate with frontend developers, product owners, architects, and cross-functional teams
Contribute to application architecture and backend service design
Develop high-quality, production-ready code with strong focus on scalability, resilience, and maintainability
Implement and maintain automated testing practices including unit, integration, API, and regression testing
Support CI/CD pipelines and automated delivery workflows
Manage application deployment, monitoring, troubleshooting, and performance optimization
Implement secure coding practices including encryption and data protection measures
Work with databases including Oracle, MySQL, and MongoDB
Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and technical documentation
Support production applications through debugging, incident resolution, and root cause analysis
Mentor and support less-experienced engineers
Promote engineering best practices including test-driven development, continuous integration, and continuous delivery
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field
10+ years of IT experience with 8+ years in software development
Strong backend development experience using Java and/or Kotlin
Experience building backend services, APIs, and microservices
Experience with Spring and Spring Boot frameworks
Experience with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and cloud-native application development
Experience deploying and operating services using GCP Cloud Run
Strong understanding of cloud computing concepts including scalability, resiliency, distributed systems, and secure service design
Experience with GitHub and CI/CD workflows
Experience with automated testing, integration testing, and test automation
Experience designing and supporting RESTful and/or event-driven web services
Experience supporting production systems including monitoring, debugging, and performance tuning
Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and automated delivery processes
Familiarity with DevOps and automation tools including Terraform, Jenkins, SonarQube, Checkmarx, Fossa, and GitHub Actions
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Experience working in collaborative Agile engineering environments
