Portage Lake Construction is seeking a Skilled Construction Laborer with a background in site work and various construction trades. In this position, you will be expected to perform technical tasks like setting grades, forming concrete, and asphalt work. You must be comfortable operating an array of machinery and equipment and be capable of driving company trucks/trailers between sites. Ideal candidates have a "no-job-too-small" attitude, demonstrated ability to meet timelines and schedules, and the ability to work independently with limited supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Excavation & Grading: Assist with site clearing, trenching, and fine grading. Experience using lasers or levels to set grade is a major plus.
- Concrete & Forming: Set up and tear down forms for slabs, walkways, and footings. Assist with tying rebar, pouring, and finishing work.
- Asphalt Work: Assist with asphalt paving and patching, raking, and compaction for driveways, lots, and roads.
- Machinery Operation: Proficiently operate skid steers, mini-excavators, plate compactors, and gas-powered saws.
- Drive & Transport: Safely drive company pickup trucks with trailers to haul equipment and materials to and from job sites.
- General Site Support: Assist in various tasks as needed, including demolition and utility installs.
- Project Support: Ability to forecast material, tool, and equipment needs along with the procurement of such items.
Requirements & Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent is required along with 2–4 years of experience in construction labor, specifically in concrete, paving, or excavation.
- Understanding of site layouts and elevations and how to read drawings.
- Hands-on experience with heavy equipment and standard construction power tools.
- Valid driver’s license with a clean record.
- Ability to perform heavy manual labor, to lift up to 75lbs., and to work outside in various weather conditions.
