The Content Director serves as the market’s chief content authority, responsible for executing company-wide content strategy at the local level. This leader ensures all brands deliver compelling, compliant, and audience-focused programming while driving innovation and growth.
Reports To: General Manager / Chief Content Officer
Supervises: Brand Managers, Continuity Coordinator, Events, Engagements & Activations Coordinator
Key Responsibilities
Market Content Leadership
- Execute enterprise content strategy across all stations and brands within the market
- Ensure brand consistency, quality, and compliance across all platforms
- Lead local programming strategy, scheduling, and on-air talent performance
- Adapt content to reflect local audience insights, culture, and competitive dynamics
Team Leadership & Development
- Directly manage Brand Managers and key support roles
- Conduct performance evaluations, coaching, and long-term development planning
- Lead weekly content meetings and quarterly performance reviews
- Foster a culture of creativity, accountability, and continuous improvement
Compliance & Risk Management
- Enforce FCC regulations, legal requirements, and company content standards
- Serve as the first escalation point for content-related issues or incidents
- Partner with the Chief Content Officer on high-risk or enterprise-level concerns
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Act as the primary liaison between local teams and enterprise content leadership
- Collaborate closely with Sales, Promotions, Marketing, and Digital teams
- Ensure all local activations and campaigns align with brand and content strategy
Decision Authority
- Approve day-to-day programming, content, and promotional decisions at the market level
- Recommend major strategic changes to the Chief Content Officer
- Maintain operational control of all local content execution
Qualifications
- Proven leadership experience in radio, media, or multi-platform content environments
- Strong understanding of programming strategy, audience development, and brand management
- Demonstrated ability to lead and develop high-performing teams
- Deep knowledge of FCC regulations and broadcast compliance
- Excellent communication, organizational, and decision-making skills
- Ability to balance creative vision with data-driven insights
