The Culinary Apprentice participates in a structured hands-on training program designed to develop foundational and advanced culinary skills while supporting the operations of Zaman International’s social enterprise kitchen and Rising Hope Bakery. Apprentices gain practical experience in food preparation, baking, sanitation, production, and teamwork while contributing to the preparation of high-quality food products for community programs and commercial customers.
Culinary Training & Skill Development
- Participate in structured culinary and baking instruction led by the Culinary Director and Culinary Arts Instructor.
- Develop competencies in knife skills, food preparation, cooking methods, baking techniques, and kitchen safety.
- Assist with daily kitchen preparation including ingredient preparation, portioning, cooking, baking, and plating.
- Learn proper use and maintenance of commercial kitchen equipment.
- Demonstrate commitment to continuous learning and professional culinary development.
Production & Kitchen Operations
- Assist with preparation of meals, baked goods, and food products produced in the commercial kitchen and Rising Hope Bakery.
- Follow standardized recipes, production schedules, and quality standards.
- Support food packaging, labeling, and timely order fulfillment.
- Maintain clean and organized workstations throughout kitchen operations.
Food Safety & Sanitation
- Follow ServSafe food safety standards and proper food handling procedures.
- Maintain sanitation and cleanliness of kitchen equipment, storage areas, and preparation spaces.
- Participate in kitchen opening and closing procedures.
- Assist with inventory management and proper food storage practices.
Apprenticeship Participation & Professional Growth
- Attend all required apprenticeship training sessions, classroom instruction, and hands-on learning activities.
- Demonstrate professionalism, teamwork, punctuality, and accountability.
- Accept feedback from instructors and supervisors and apply it to improve performance.
- Participate in skills assessments and program evaluations as required.
Skills & Abilities
