Job Title: Mechanical DesignerJob Description
This role is hands-on and manufacturing-focused, supporting the design and development of automated equipment primarily for automotive body-in-white applications. The engineer will work closely with the shop floor, project engineers, and cross-functional teams to design automation equipment using SolidWorks, create and manage BOMs within ERP systems, and support builds through concept, detailing, and execution. The role is fully on-site and best suited for a practical, decision-making engineer with real-world automation experience.
Responsibilities
Design automation equipment using SolidWorks.
Create and manage Bills of Materials (BOMs) within ERP systems.
Support project builds through concept, detailing, and execution.
Collaborate closely with the shop floor and project engineers.
Work with cross-functional teams to develop automated equipment for automotive applications.
Essential Skills
10+ years of experience with SolidWorks.
10+ years of experience designing automation equipment.
Experience in BIW automation or full assembly line automation.
Experience with BOM creation and management.
Proficiency in ERP system data entry.
Knowledge in welding and weld equipment.
Expertise in fixture design.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Welding/Welding automation experience.
Fixture design experience.
Work history with companies like JR, Thyssenkrupp, Kuka, Comau, HTI, Invio, Nagel, Gudel, Creative.
BSME degree (not required but nice to have).
Work Environment
This position is fully on-site in Livonia, within an engineering team of approximately 10 people, part of a 45-person team. The role offers minimal to no travel, with long-term opportunity potential and a stable, consistent workload.

Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $38.00 - $43.00/hr.
