Position Summary
De Saegher Energy is seeking a skilled and motivated dairy manure Sand Separation Systems Manager to oversee the operation, maintenance, and optimization of sand separation and manure handling systems at dairy facilities. This role is critical to ensuring system efficiency, maximizing sand recovery, protecting downstream equipment (including digesters and pumps), and maintaining environmental compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage daily operations of manure sand separation systems (lanes, augers, cyclones, separators, pumps)
- Monitor and optimize sand recovery efficiency and system throughput
- Coordinate maintenance, inspections, and repairs of mechanical and hydraulic components
- Troubleshoot system issues including clogging, wear, and flow inconsistencies
- Work closely with dairy personnel and plant operators to ensure consistent manure flow and system performance
- Oversee preventative maintenance programs to reduce downtime and extend equipment life
- Track and report key performance metrics (sand recovery %, solids content, equipment uptime)
- Ensure proper handling and storage of recovered sand for reuse
- Maintain compliance with environmental regulations and company standards
- Assist with integration and protection of downstream systems (anaerobic digesters, pumps, membranes, etc.)
- Supervise and train operators and maintenance staff as needed
Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience with dairy manure systems, sand separation, or similar agricultural/industrial processes
- Strong mechanical aptitude (pumps. augers, conveyors, separators)
- Experience with manure handling systems, lagoons, and/or anaerobic digestion preferred
- Ability to troubleshoot and solve operational issues in real time
- Familiarity with preventative maintenance programs
- Basic understanding of hydraulics, flow rates, and solids separation
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Ability to work in outdoor agricultural environments year-round
Preferred Experience
- Experience with sand separation technologies (McLanahan, Daritech, Hydrocyclones, etc.)
- Knowledge of biogas or anaerobic digestion systems
- Experience managing or leading a small team
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Comfortable working around livestock environments and manure systems
- Ability to stand, walk, and work in varying weather conditions
