Job Title: Fabricator
Job Description
This role focuses on fabricating and assembling truck body components for county road commission trucks and other heavy-duty vehicles. You will interpret blueprints, measure and cut materials, operate a variety of fabrication tools, and perform MIG or ARC welding to build and repair truck bodies and related equipment. The position requires strong mechanical aptitude, precision in fabrication, and consistent communication with shop leadership to ensure projects meet quality and safety standards.
Responsibilities
Fabricate truck body parts and components for county road commission trucks and other heavy-duty trucks from cab and wheel base to finished body.
Read and interpret blueprints and drawings to determine material requirements, measurements, and fabrication steps.
Accurately measure, mark, and lay out materials prior to cutting, fitting, and welding.
Cut steel and other materials using plasma cutters, shears, saws, and other cutting tools.
Operate punch presses, drills, saws, and hand tools to form, drill, and prepare parts for assembly.
Perform MIG and ARC welding on steel materials to fabricate and assemble truck bodies and related equipment.
Fit, position, clamp, and tack-weld parts in preparation for final welding and assembly.
Use hand tools, impact wrenches, torches, and other shop equipment safely and efficiently.
Inspect completed welds and fabricated parts to ensure they meet quality, dimensional, and safety requirements.
Perform body repairs and modifications on buses, mail trucks, and other large heavy vehicles as needed.
Communicate with the shop manager on a daily basis to review work orders, project priorities, and progress.
Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area, following all shop safety procedures and guidelines.
Contribute to a reliable and productive work environment through strong attendance and consistent work ethic.
Essential Skills
At least 5 years of experience performing MIG welding.
At least 5 years of experience welding on steel materials.
At least 1 year of experience reading and interpreting blueprints.
At least 5 years of experience using tools such as cutting tools, impact wrenches, or torches.
Proficiency in MIG welding and familiarity with ARC welding processes.
Ability to read and work from blueprints, drawings, and fabrication diagrams.
Strong fabrication skills, including measuring, cutting, fitting, and assembly.
Experience using hand tools, power tools, punch presses, drills, and saws in a fabrication environment.
Mechanical aptitude and the ability to troubleshoot and solve fabrication-related issues.
Ability to work safely with welding and cutting equipment and follow shop safety practices.
Reliable attendance and a strong work ethic in a production or fabrication setting.
Job Type & Location
This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Howell, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $24.00 - $27.00/hr.
