Summary & Qualifications:
SUMMARY
The Student Success Coach supports the college's student success, retention and completion goals by providing comprehensive, academic support to students in the areas of, time management, organization, study strategies, goal setting, and navigating campus systems and resources. Success Coaches serve as a primary point of contact in students' network of support and serve as a liaison across this network to ensure coordination and continuity of service. The success coach must have demonstrated experience working with diverse populations, be skilled in communication and relationship building, have independent decision-making and problem solving skills, and a desire to empower and support students in defining and achieving their success.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATES and LICENSES
Required:
• Bachelor's degree and experience working with learners
• Experience using Google Workspace and video communication tools (e.g. Google Meet and Zoom)
• Experience tracking and reporting data using a database
• Experience with program development and implementation
Preferred:
• Master's degree in a related area plus one year of related work experience
• Experience in academic support
• Knowledge of academic coaching strategies and practices
• A cover letter is preferred
Essential Responsibilities
Supports Individual Student Success
• Engage with students and build relationships that persist through graduation/program completion, serving as a primary point of contact, and using professional discernment and problem-solving skills to help them creatively address academic needs and navigate complex challenges
• Assist students with the development of academic success skills and strategies, provide relevant sources and tools (i.e., handouts, guides/tutorials, videos, websites, etc.), and educate about and refer students to campus resources and support systems as they relate to their needs
• Assist students with defining and completing goals through an empowerment coaching approach
• Take action (as defined by Student Success Coordinator and coaching team procedures) on relevant coaching referrals, academic flags, and other tracking items that identify priority students within My Success
• Consistently document and provide follow-up communication and action steps for all success coaching appointments, including reminding students of important college dates and deadlines
• Utilize My Success to track academic progress for students engaged in coaching and provide outreach, intervention, and/or referral as appropriate, including communication with other faculty and staff to ensure coordinated and comprehensive support
Supports Student Success & Retention
• Practice high-quality customer service and exercise discretion in obtaining and providing factual and confidential information related to office and College operations
• Document, monitor, and evaluate individual student success and assist the Student Success Coordinator with establishing and monitoring leading and lagging indicators relevant to NMC's strategic plan and departmental goals
• Work with the Student Success Coordinator and other student success & retention colleagues to develop and implement communication strategies, and assist with technical training/assistance, communication, and data analysis related to the college's student success and retention software, "My Success."
• Develop and coordinate ongoing student learning opportunities (i.e., workshops, Canvas content, classroom presentations, etc) and implement interventions specific to prioritized populations in collaboration with other relevant faculty and staff, to promote their persistence and completion
• In collaboration with the Student Success Coordinator, develop and coordinate college readiness and success programming (i.e. College Edge) and play an active role in its execution and continuous improvement
• Continuously develop knowledge of best practices, strategies, tools, and resources related to coaching strategies, academic success and retention in a higher education setting
