Job Title: CNC Machinist
Job Description
This role focuses on setting up and running CNC milling machining centers to perform value-added machining on pre-cast underbody automotive parts. You will recall and load programs, set up tools, run first-piece parts, and perform in-machine programming, editing, and offsets to support high-volume production. You will work closely with existing CAM-generated programs and ensure that each machining operation meets quality, efficiency, and safety standards in a busy, well-organized manufacturing environment.
Responsibilities
Handle CNC mill start-ups, including recalling programs, loading cutting tools, and running first-piece parts to verify quality and accuracy.
Perform in-machine programming using G and M codes, including conversational programming directly at the CNC controls.
Edit existing programs and make tool and work offsets as needed during production runs to maintain part quality and process stability.
Support machine operators during production by troubleshooting issues, adjusting offsets, and ensuring machines run efficiently.
Use CNC mill machining centers to perform value-added machining on pre-casted underbody automotive parts, including drilling, boring, and other material removal operations.
Review and try out programs generated by CAM programmers, confirming that they run correctly and making minor adjustments when necessary.
Complete multiple setups per shift, typically handling 3-4 setups per day, while maintaining consistent quality and throughput.
Read and interpret prints and part drawings to verify dimensions, tolerances, and machining requirements.
Monitor machine performance during high-production runs and respond quickly to any alarms, tool wear, or process deviations.
Work collaboratively with production staff and robotics systems to keep machines running smoothly and minimize downtime.
Follow established safety procedures and maintain a clean and organized work area in a busy machining environment.
Work scheduled shifts and be available to work 2-3 Saturdays per month and occasional Sundays as needed.
Essential Skills
Minimum of 4 years of machining experience, with a strong focus on CNC milling operations.
Hands-on experience with CNC mill machining centers in a production environment.
Proficiency in entering G and M codes and performing conversational programming directly at the CNC machine.
Ability to edit CNC programs and make precise tool and work offsets during production runs.
Experience performing CNC mill setups, including recalling programs, loading tools, and running first-piece inspections.
Strong print reading skills, including the ability to interpret dimensions, tolerances, and machining symbols.
Comfort working in a high-production, fast-paced machining environment.
Ability to support machine operators by troubleshooting machining issues and adjusting programs or offsets as needed.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working with Fanuc and Siemens CNC controls.
Familiarity with CAM-generated programs, such as those created in Mastercam, and the ability to validate and fine-tune them at the machine.
working with automotive or similar high-volume metal machining operations.
Experience working with a variety of CNC milling brands such as Vigel, SW, Mazak, and OKK.
Ability to handle multiple setups per shift while maintaining high quality and consistent output.
Capability to load existing programs and perform offsets, even if not doing full programming, is valued and can be accommodated at appropriate pay levels.
Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate, repeatable parts.
Why Work Here?
You will join a high-production machining operation that is structured for efficiency and ease of work, with well-developed CAM programs that typically require minimal rework. The environment leverages extensive robotics, reducing manual intervention and helping protect machines and runs from operator errors. You can expect clear and manageable work expectations, with support from established processes and technology. The organization offers insurance starting the first full calendar month, as well as premium pay with double time available for occasional Sunday work. This setting provides the opportunity to work with modern equipment, develop your technical skills, and enjoy a stable, production-focused role with predictable routines and support.
Work Environment
The role is based in a busy manufacturing facility dedicated strictly to CNC milling operations. Metal machining is performed in a well-lighted, organized area designed for high-volume production. The shop uses Fanuc and Siemens controls, with Mastercam employed by programmers to generate CNC programs. Primary CNC brands in the facility include Vigel, SW, Mazak, and OKK. The operation is highly automated, with extensive use of robotics to assist with production and reduce manual handling. The schedule includes openings on a 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. shift, with the expectation to work 2-3 Saturdays per month and occasional Sundays, which are compensated at double time when worked.
