Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Medical Scheduler to support patient access and appointment coordination in Shelby Township, Michigan. This contract opportunity with potential for a permanent role is ideal for someone who can balance accuracy, professionalism, and a patient-focused approach in a fast-paced healthcare environment. In this role, you will help patients navigate scheduling, insurance verification, and pre-registration while ensuring records are complete and up to date. The right candidate will be comfortable communicating clearly with patients and working efficiently across multiple systems and priorities.
Responsibilities:
Gather and confirm patient demographic, insurance, and financial details to support registration, billing, and payer requirements.
Schedule, move, or cancel appointments in the healthcare scheduling platform while maintaining a high level of accuracy.
Complete pre-registration tasks by entering, reviewing, and organizing required documentation in a timely manner.
Verify insurance coverage in real time and explain coverage-related needs such as referrals, prior authorizations, or pre-certifications to patients.
Contact patients to confirm upcoming visits and provide clear instructions about appointment readiness or service preparation.
Manage inbound and outbound calls with a service-focused approach that supports patient satisfaction and access to care.
Maintain accurate records by documenting interactions and updating patient information as needed.
Demonstrate professionalism and tact in all communications while following departmental service standards.
Assist with additional scheduling and patient access duties as assigned to support daily operations. Requirements - At least 2 years of experience in a medical office, patient scheduling, or healthcare access role.
Hands-on knowledge of third-party medical insurance processes and managed care requirements.
Familiarity with medical terminology and coding concepts such as ICD-10.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook, along with healthcare scheduling or registration systems.
Ability to review and interpret insurance responses, patient information, and related documentation with accuracy.
Strong multitasking, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills in a fast-changing environment.
Clear verbal and written communication skills with a courteous, patient-centered, and detail-oriented approach.
