We are seeking a driven and detail-oriented Design Release Engineer to support the development of body exterior functional plastics from concept through full production. This role plays a critical part in ensuring high-quality, manufacturable, and cost-effective automotive components. You'll collaborate across engineering, design, and manufacturing teams, making a direct impact on vehicle launches and performance. This opportunity is ideal for engineers who enjoy owning projects end-to-end and working in a fast-paced, collaborative automotive environment.
?? What's the Job?
Lead development of exterior (and potentially interior) plastic components from initial concept through production launch
Provide feasibility input based on design concepts, sketches, and clay models
Establish and manage development timelines throughout the project lifecycle
Develop functional objectives, build objectives, DVPR, and DFMEA documentation
Coordinate with internal and external design resources to guide component development
Release component geometry using Teamcenter/NX tools
Validate designs through CAE analysis and physical testing at component, system, and vehicle levels
Manage documentation required for system release and compliance
Oversee tooling construction and support production of assemblies
Provide on-site support during pilot builds and production launch, including travel to facilities (e.g., Canada/Windsor)
Conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions related to fit, finish, assembly, and performance issues
Analyze warranty data and identify cost reduction opportunities
?? What's Needed?
3-5 years of relevant engineering experience
Experience with exterior plastics strongly preferred (interior plastics also considered)
Exposure to automotive OEM programs or strong Tier 1 supplier experience
Experience supporting product launch cycles (cradle-to-grave engineering involvement preferred)
Familiarity with Teamcenter and ability to navigate CAD mockups (no design work required)
Understanding of Product Design Office (PDO) processes
Strong problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work cross-functionally
