Surgical Technologist — Outpatient Surgery Center

Role Summary
The Surgical Technologist works as a key member of the operative team alongside the RN Circulator, surgeon, and surgical assistants to deliver efficient, safe, and comfortable patient care. This role is responsible for assessing, planning, preparing, and maintaining the surgical field — anticipating the needs of both the patient and the operative team as procedures progress across all age groups (neonatal through geriatric).
Key Responsibilities
- Case Preparation — Interpret procedure cards, assess case carts for supplies prior to scheduled procedures, and identify and acquire any missing equipment or supplies
- Sterile Field Management — Prepare and maintain the surgical field using specialized knowledge and current standards of practice
- Physician Support — Apply knowledge of operative procedures and individual physician preferences to anticipate needs throughout surgery
- Patient Monitoring — Observe for overt changes in patient condition that may indicate an emerging problem
- Equipment Stewardship — Ensure proper use and handling of instruments and equipment; address improper use by co-workers or physicians
- Documentation — Evaluate and update case information including preference cards, broken or misplaced equipment, back-ordered supplies, and recommended procedure changes
Required Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma or GED
- Training: Completion of an accredited Surgical Technologist program or equivalent previous experience as a Surgical Tech
- Orientation: On-the-job orientation from a qualified OR preceptor
- Certification: BLS required by completion of core orientation
Preferred Qualifications
- Surgical Technologist certification (CST)
