Peckham Inc. - GO Specialist
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Growth Opportunity (GO) Grant is a 42-month federal grant through the Department of Labor. The GO grant will engage 160 young people (80 in each Lansing and Flint) ages 18-24 years old connected to the criminal justice system and/or impacted by community violence, to help them identify career interests, match them with educational opportunities, training, credential attainment and paid work experiences, deliver a proprietary leadership development curriculum, pair them with a caring mentor, and ultimately set them on a path to obtaining living-wage jobs. The GO Specialist is responsible to provide comprehensive hard and soft skill employment readiness services and Cognitive Behavioral Interventions Employment (CBI-EMP) curriculum to participants. This person will coordinate with program partners to complete the intake process, initial goal setting, and assess needs to help participants meet their vocational goals. Case Management will include crisis intervention, coaching, CBI-EMP Skills and Life Skill Classes, family intervention services, supportive services, and job development. This individual will pull together internal and external resources to provide the best support possible.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide person-centered case management services to GO participants
Deliver one-on-one coaching, crisis intervention and/or training with program participants
Primary Instructor for CBI-EMP skills, resume development, interview preparation, and life skills discussions
Provide needed social supports including obtaining personal documents, driver's licenses, housing support, coordinating with other social service agencies, and public benefits
Guide each participant through the creation of their Life Map
Work with program staff to coordinate appropriate referrals to community partners including Community Mental Health, Michigan Rehabilitation Services, Michigan Works!, and Michigan Department of Health and Human Services
Maintain strong relationships with Violence Prevention Partners and mentors
Develop and maintain community employment placements and complete follow up support
Maintain an accurate record of participant progress, engagement, services, and incentives
Regular communication with parole/probation officers to coordinate support services and program activities
Complete transition plan and 12 month follow up services for each participant
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Process initial intake documents; Develop and maintain electronic case files for program participants
Communicate with community agencies and provide information about community resources to enhance support services for program participants
Conduct orientation sessions for new program participants
Work with an interdepartmental team to monitor participants' progress and enhance the quality of services provided
Research and build resources and team knowledge to help Team Members navigate community resources and internal resources so they can develop independence and self-sustainability
May attend community and Peckham events throughout the year
Maintain a safe and clean work environment
Assist in the training of people with disabilities as needed
Promote Peckham's vision, values, and services with highest integrity and ethics to all customers and stakeholders
Assist in maintaining organization wide quality standards
Miscellaneous related duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Human Services another related field.
Or 3-5 years of related experience
Must have excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy cultural diversity in the workplace
Must have understanding of public policy and applicable human resources laws
Ability to research and build resources through community partners and Peckham programs
Clear understanding of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel
Proficiency in, or ability to learn OnTime and Workday, or another HRIS system
Ability to maintain and keep strict confidentiality
This position requires passing and maintaining federal and state security background checks
