Directly supervises leads and direct and indirect employees on the production floor. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.

Meets regularly with production planners to review the production schedule. Assigns work to implement the schedule, informing the planners when conditions change and the schedule needs to be modified.
Issues written and oral instructions to ensure proper flow of information between production and customers.
Reviews Datanet and time-keeping daily to identify issues requiring investigation. Approves and monitors paid and unpaid time off.
Responsible for overall quality of the department. Initiates NCRs, PARs, and customer complaints for problems originating within his/her area of control.
Studies and standardizes production processes and procedures to improve efficiencies. Manages continuous improvement projects as assigned. Works with engineering to ensure that the best production processes are being used to make the customers' products. Works with engineering on new product introductions including prototypes, samples, pre-production, and post-production planning sessions. Involved appropriate personnel as needed.
Recommends manpower and staffing needs. Participates in interviewing and hiring of department employees. Make recommendations to the Plant Manager and Human Resources department.
Responsible for department orientation of new employees, assessment of employees' qualifications, mentorship of farm-ins, and compliance with associated documentation.
Identifies marginal performers, counsels employees on performance issues, and deals with disciplinary action when required. Involves HR as appropriate. Documents actions on coaching or disciplinary forms, or employee incident reports.
Conducts reviews and recommends merit increases.
Ensures acceptable housekeeping throughout department.
Assures communication and compliance regarding QSP, Work Instructions, and Safety and Health manuals.
Directs department preventative maintenances programs and approves maintenance work orders.
Ensures that monthly safety inspections are reviewed and all discrepancies receive appropriate dispositions.
Ensures that set-p and run rates are being updated and that work center and machine data is being maintained.
Manages the set-up reduction activities to include explaining why set-up reduction is necessary, how to do set-up reductions, and monitors the set-ups to ensure that goals are being met. Reports the status of set-up reduction to management.
Prepares MEAs gathering data necessary to justify the items/equipment, and then presents the justification to the Plant Manager.
Assures stock items are kept current and that associated costs are well-managed. Approves purchase orders per company guidelines.

What Does It Take to Be a Fit for This Role?
Bachelor's degree in a related field and three or more years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience is preferred. Must be able to use scales and measurement instruments, and perform SPC. Knowledge of scheduling systems. Knowledge of manufacturing equipment. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications. Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal and communication skills. Computer skills are necessary for everyday work.
