Summary The Administrative Officer (AO) serves as the primary assistant to the Chief Nurse for Ambulatory Care Nursing Service (ACNS) and is responsible for providing oversight and administrative management for all areas within the service as well as for the delivery of quality healthcare services. Responsibilities The incumbent works under the general supervision of the Chief Nurse of ACNS and serves as a primary resource for all administrative functions. The incumbent identifies areas of concern independently, because of thorough analyses, and presents these to leadership with recommendations for resolution. The AO for ACNS will utilize a variety of management skills to perform all such duties as are necessary to support the administrative and management responsibilities of the service. A significant portion of his/her duties will include administrative responsibilities of the Chief Nurse and all service Nurse Managers, in administering the activities in all areas supervised by the Chief Nurse of ACNS. In effect, the incumbent acts as an extension of the Chief, taking initiative in program planning and development, managing all office resources, and establishing and maintaining communication with all services within the Medical Center. The goals of the position are to provide all developmental and operational aspects of the office, thus furthering the availability of the Chiefs to accomplish his/her unique administrative duties. The incumbent will perform analysis of all areas of management including planning, organizing, implementing, coordination, controlling, evaluating, education and improving nursing, administrative and support operations of ACNS, geared to the successful accomplishment of the VA mission, receiving additional guidance and direction as needed.
