POSITION
Corunna Public Schools is looking for a Middle School Assistant Principal & Assistant Coordinator of Special Education. Start date no later than July 28, 2026. We are looking to hire only the best.
JOB DESCRIPTION
This hybrid role supports the coordination and implementation of special education services across the district while assisting with student support systems, school culture, and instructional leadership at the middle school level (grades 4-7). This position is designed to build leadership capacity while ensuring high-quality services for all learners.
All active Corunna employees can enroll themselves and their family in the state’s first on-site Cavalier Family Health Clinic (pictured at right). The clinic’s goal is to provide (in almost all situations) free visits, free prescriptions, and other medical procedures for the active employee and her/his immediate family members.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Valid Michigan teaching certificate with special education endorsement

Michigan School Administrator Certificate (or eligibility)
- Master’s Degree (or in process of obtaining)

Minimum of 3 years of successful experience in special education

Knowledge of IDEA, MARSE, IEP processes, and MTSS frameworks
- Teaching or administrative experience at the 4-7 grade level

Understands the physical, emotional, & social characteristics of middle school children (grades 4-7)

Proven background of leadership responsibilities and ability to work with administration
- Regular and reliable attendance is required
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assistant Middle School Principal

Responsible for student behavior and attendance systems (Tier 2/3)

Promote a positive and inclusive school climate
-
Assist with teacher supervision and evaluation
-
Support classroom walkthroughs and instructional improvement
-
Help coordinate supports for struggling learners
-
Assist with daily operations and problem-solving
-
Build strong relationships with students, staff, and families
- Assist in supervising extra-curricular and after-school activities
- Be responsible for supervising the cafeteria and recess during lunch

Help maintain practices that promote good attendance, good conduct, and good health of students
- He/she shall perform such other duties as may be assigned by the middle school principal or superintendent
Assistant Coordinator of Special Education
- Assist and collaborate with the District Special Education Coordinator in ensuring compliance with IDEA, MARSE, and state/federal regulations
- Assist with oversight of IEP development, timelines, and implementation
- Assist with complex IEP meetings and parent communication
- Assist with the coordination of evaluations and eligibility processes
- Support supervision, evaluation, and coaching of special education staff, especially in the area of student behavior
- Help monitor student data, progress, and program effectiveness
- Collaborate with RESD and service providers
- Assist with reporting, documentation, and audit preparation
