Reporting to the System Chief Nurse Executive, the Vice President of Nursing Excellence leads the development and advancement of system focused programs for nursing professional practice, education, innovation, research, and quality development. Assures that the strategies are aligned with system and nursing strategic imperatives and are supported by the latest evidenced based practices while continually advancing nursing practice, education, research, and innovation. Supports the System Chief Nursing Executive in advancing the strategic vision of Nursing across the health system. Aligns, develops and supports all HFH sites in pursuit of Magnet designation.
Additionally, the Vice President of Nursing Excellence collaborates to develop and report nursing analytics/data to support the advancement of professional nursing. Coordinates the Henry Ford Health (HFH) Michigan State University Health Science Center (MSU HSC) nursing and allied health partnership and Nursing workgroups. Collaborates with HFH nursing leadership to develop and implement new models for nursing practice, education and research utilizing innovation at the intersections. Aligns nursing education and collaborates with the nursing education leaders across the system continuum. Provides leadership, direction and coordination for the associated external affiliations and relationships.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides enterprise leadership in the development of the Nursing Education Programs among the advisory committees, customers, physicians, and other staff.
Collaborates with Chief Nursing Officer Council (CNOC) to implement shared services in Nursing Education.
Provides enterprise leadership to support the pursuit and maintenance of Magnet designation at all HFH sites
Facilitates reporting of NDNQI measures and develops improvement programs for outcomes in partnership with the site CNOs
Leads development and drives implementation of standardized clinical education strategies that address organization needs, fosters improved outcomes, and advances competency through utilization of current nursing theory, research and regulatory requirements.
Collaborates with system quality leaders and stakeholders to ensure alignment with quality, safety, high reliability and service goals, as well as regulatory standards.
Participates in the leadership and implementation of HFH practice improvement models and innovative strategies.
Establishes and maintains relationships and processes to assure high-quality academic affiliations, excellent educational oversight and support for student and faculty
Establishes and maintains state-of-the-art continuing education programs for HFH nursing.
Promotes internal and external stakeholder management; fosters and sustains ongoing dialogue and partnership with HR/learning, nursing and operations leadership, including safety leaders, and colleagues over nursing professional practice and informatics to ensure clinical development is aligned with broader strategies and desired outcomes.
Facilitates use of technology to enhance nursing practice
Provides administrative support for program evaluation activities that will enhance patient care and program success. Designs, implements, and reviews the results of internal and external evaluation surveys.
Leads Nursing Education strategic planning for HFH and in partnership with site nurse leaders
Research and monitor nursing market trends, technology and products in order to identify potential applications that will strategically enhance nursing.
Develops and implements appropriate programs to stimulate and support nursing research.
Responsible for maintenance of Henry Ford Hospital School of Nursing records.
Responsible for the development of and appropriate use of assigned nursing scholarship/grants.
Interacts with the community nursing professional educators and non-nursing community members to enrich and enlighten community awareness
Partners with other corporate and entity-specific personnel to ensure effective communication, support, and awareness of nursing.
Participates in philanthropic efforts that support nursing education, innovation, and professional practice.
Evaluates the financial impact of recommended changes to, or development of, new services and programs.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 5 to 10 years of substantial academic healthcare administrative and research experience required
Must be flexible and able to work with and develop projects that meet the needs of Henry Ford Health System. As a result, will need to develop supportive working relationships with unit leadership and team members
Must be able to interact with senior administrative and physician leadership throughout HFH, nursing staff at all levels, nursing leaders and other healthcare workers, research scientists, patients and external scientific groups
Must possess excellent analytical, written, and verbal communication skills
Computer literacy is expected. Broad computer skills including Microsoft Office software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and familiar with the use of the internet
REQUIRED EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS
Master's degree in nursing required
Doctorate in nursing or related field required
Current Michigan RN license required.
ANA Certification preferred
