Summary
Ensure that all machines are producing parts as efficiently as possible by performing the following duties:
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:
- Floor support.
- Consults with other engineers, process technicians, managers, foreman, maintenance and quality personnel to solve production and quality problems.
- Work with tool design group to develop work holding methods.
- Develop set up sheets.
- Ability to read and interpret customer part prints and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Modifying & adding to robot programs.
- Work with existing I/O to add sensors and small devices.
- Ability to diagnose mechanical system malfunctions.
- Ability to analyze PLC ladder logic, and electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic schematics.
- Basic understanding of lean manufacturing, machine tool M-codes and I/O interfaces.
- Work with personnel to solve problems and improve processes.
- Roll out lessons learned from previous implementations.
- Recognize possible safety issues in work cells and assist in correction.
- Perform tests to ensure the most efficient tools are being used to manufacture parts.
- Order tooling when needed.
- Change tooling on machines when necessary.
- Understanding of Pro-E solid modeling and Pro-Manufacturing.
- Support and troubleshoot assembly and manufacturing processes.
- Identification of inefficiencies, bottlenecks and downtime issues, ultimately leading to design proposal and implementation of solutions.
- Troubleshooting and improvement of basic mechanical and electrical assembly systems.
- Concept and implement cell I/O for robotic interfacing.
- Work with vendors to obtain proposals and quotes.
- Specify and purchase equipment and supplies.
- Design and creation of PLC ladder logic, and electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic schematics
- Operator training and development of job instructions.
- Work with Quality dept to develop control plans, process flow diagrams and process FMEA's
- Assists in development of equipment PM schedules
- Analyzes and plans work force utilization, space requirements, and work flow, and designs layout of equipment and workspace for maximum efficiency.
- Estimate cycle times and throughput.
- Confers with vendors to determine product specifications and arrange for purchase of equipment, materials, or parts and evaluates products according to specifications and quality standards.
- Understands and applies statistical methods to estimate future manufacturing requirements and potential.
- Helps quote new business by developing cycle time, machine requirements, tooling requirements, gaging requirements and labor content.
- Able to define variable cost/part in production and propose improvements for cost.
- Exhibit strong leadership skills and effective project management skills.
- Able to quote and/or design production processes with automation, ergonomics, throughput and operations in mind.
- Able to launch projects by working with multiple departments (customer service, customer engineering, customer SQE's, maintenance, operations, materials, purchasing).
- Able to collect and analyze production data (whiteboards, time tickets, tool incident reports) to determine plan to improve production.
- Able to perform problem solving using root cause analysis tools.
- Lead process improvement teams and/or APQP project teams as needed. Exhibits effective project management skills.
- Practical understanding of foundry practices (sand cast, die cast, etc)
- Practical understanding of sound machining practices
- Practical understanding of fixture design/build.
- Practical understanding of electrical, mechanical, assembly, pneumatic and fluid power, and vision systems / design practices.
- Develop and maintain company safety policies and procedures.
- Supervises two or more people.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
4 year degree in related field and 6 years minimum experience preferred
