CNC Machinist (in office, Traverse City)
We are growing our team at Thompson Retractor and are looking for a CNC Machinist to join our team. This role is responsible for interpreting project blueprints, designing programs, and setting up machines to produce the component per part blueprint specifications. CNC Machinists are also charged with performing machine maintenance and cleaning.

What you’ll do:
- Read technical drawings and set up the machines in accordance with proper work holding and machining practices
- Use computer software to model cutting paths and program machines accordingly
- Perform quality assurance inspections to ensure products meet design specifications
- Adjust machine cutting paths or settings to optimize production while maintaining quality
- Consider tools required to cut materials and program machines accordingly
- Troubleshoot and resolve problems with machines as they arise
- Provide recommendations regarding needs or wants of new equipment
- Ensure production performance and quality standards are met
- Assist for motivating and developing machining skills in employees
- Responsible for making sure parts are made to print
- Responsible for maintenance and preventative maintenance records
- Develop or assist with developing work order, work instructions and routers? development
- Ensure a safe, clean and efficient work environment
- Monitor/track Department Lean activities?
- Monitor/track department KOI’s?
This Might Describe You:
- Diploma or certification in CNC programming/machining or related field
- Proven experience as a CNC Machinist in the manufacturing industry
- Basic knowledge of CAD/CAM software, G-code preferred
- In-depth understanding of metal properties and machinery
- Experience running short run production and single part prototypes
- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork abilities.
- Strong background knowledge in machine and production processes
- Able to multi-task
- Working Knowledge of shop tools and equipment
