Job Title: Progressive Die Maker
Job Description
We are seeking a Progressive Die Maker with expertise in crafting tools and metal forming for stamping and forging operations. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of analyzing design specifications, cutting and shaping metal, assembling parts, and conducting tests to ensure precision and functionality.
Responsibilities
Read and interpret detailed 2D blueprints and 3D CAD models to determine dimensions, tolerances, and build sequence for progressive stamping dies.
Fabricate die components including die blocks, punches, plates, and tooling details from steel and aluminum.
Operate and set up manual and CNC machine tools, including mills, lathes, surface grinders, and drill presses.
Perform precision bench work, including hand-fitting, filing, stoning, and shimming to achieve exact specifications.
Assemble progressive dies from the ground up, ensuring proper alignment, timing, and component integration.
Conduct new die tryouts in stamping presses to validate performance and part quality, and debug tooling during initial runs, correcting timing, clearance, stripping, and forming issues.
Use precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and height gauges to verify tooling accuracy and compliance with engineering requirements.
Ensure completed dies meet quality, performance, and production readiness standards prior to release.
Essential Skills
Minimum of 3 years experience in Steel or Aluminum Progressive Die Building, including print die construction, assembly, alignment, and tryout.
Hands-on experience with toolroom machinery and equipment, including operating CNC mills, manual lathes, surface grinders, and drill presses.
Proficient in blueprint and CAD interpretation, with the ability to read and interpret detailed 2D blueprints and 3D CAD models.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Experience working with transfer and deep draw dies is desirable.
Ability to rework damaged components and troubleshoot in the die tryout process.
Proficient in cutting, shaping, and trimming blanks or blocks to specified lengths or shapes using power and hand tools.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Mount Clemens, MI.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $30.00 - $36.00/hr.
