Summer Helper – Hydro Plant

Position Summary
Cloverland Electric Cooperative is seeking a Summer Helper – Hydro Plant to support maintenance and cleaning activities at Cooperative properties. This seasonal position performs a variety of traditional building and grounds maintenance tasks, both outdoors and indoors, including lawn care and basic cleaning inside the Hydro Plant facility. This role is ideal for individuals who enjoy hands-on work and contributing to a safe, efficient work environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Ensure tools, equipment, and materials are available, functional, and accounted for during job assignments.
- Report any abnormal conditions or safety concerns to the supervisor or foreman promptly.
- Promote and comply with all safety rules, procedures, and traffic regulations when operating Cooperative vehicles.
- Accurately complete weekly timesheets and submit them to the supervisor for approval.
- Assist other employees within the Generation Division with assigned tasks or projects as requested.
- Operate riding and push lawn mowers and gas-powered weed whips.
- Perform painting, sweeping, vacuuming, and mopping projects across Cloverland properties as directed.
- Attend trainings and seminars as assigned to enhance job knowledge and skills.
- Utilize required personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times.
- Perform other related duties and assume additional responsibilities as assigned.
Working Conditions & Physical Demands
- Work may be performed outdoors in varying and sometimes adverse weather conditions, including subzero temperatures and high heat/humidity. Availability during such conditions is required.
- Position requires good physical condition, strength, and dexterity.
- Lifting 50 pounds or more may be required occasionally; medium work involves exertion of up to 50–75 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds more frequently.
- Frequent bending, stooping, reaching (including overhead), climbing, grasping, pushing, pulling, and walking long distances or over uneven terrain.
- Ability to work in awkward positions and enclosed spaces.
- Good hand-eye coordination and ability to safely use handheld and manually operated tools.
- Clear communication skills and good hearing are required for safety and work coordination.
- Exposure to hazards including heights, electrical energy, and radiant energy.
Accountabilities
- Reports to the Hydro Plant Manager, with field assignments requiring coordination with and reporting to the Foreman.
- Responsible for keeping supervisors informed of work progress, completion, and efficiency opportunities.
- Accountable to Cooperative management for the effective and efficient performance of duties.
- Encouraged to use sound judgment and initiative, propose process improvements, and act in the best interest of the Cooperative.
Position Specifications
- This position is classified as non-exempt under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
- Employees are compensated on an hourly basis.
Education and Experience
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Must possess a valid Michigan Driver’s License.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Demonstrated competence in written and verbal communication, reading comprehension, judgment, decision-making, time management, and troubleshooting.
- Basic knowledge of equipment operation, control, and maintenance.
- Understanding of proper use of materials and resources to safely and efficiently complete work.
- Ability to maintain First Aid and CPR certification as required by the Cooperative.
