The University of Michigan Law School is seeking an Audio-Visual Technician to join the Law School Information Technology (Law IT) team. This role provides front line technology support for classroom instruction, live events, and daily operations, ensuring reliable, high-quality performance of instructional technology and audio visual systems.
The Audio-Visual Technician responds to classroom support requests, service tickets, emails, and walk-in inquiries, delivering consistent and effective support to faculty, staff, students, and guests.
This position reports to the IT Operations Manager and is fully onsite at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor Central Campus. The role is primarily scheduled Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, with rare evening or weekend support required, typically only a few times per year.
- Provide front line support for classroom and event technology
- Set up, operate, and troubleshoot audio visual equipment for classes and events
- Respond to service tickets, email requests, and walk-in support needs
- Assist with routine maintenance and testing of classroom technology systems
- Support live events, including setup and on-site troubleshooting
- Train faculty, staff, and students on the use of classroom technology, AV systems, and Law School facilities
- Maintain accurate documentation related to equipment inventory, maintenance, and repairs
- Work collaboratively with senior staff to resolve technical issues and improve services
At least one year of experience supporting audio visual or computer-based technologies, or relevant education in a related field
Basic understanding of audio visual equipment setup, support, and troubleshooting
Strong customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of users
Ability to learn new technologies and follow technical procedures
Experience supporting classroom or instructional technology environments
Familiarity with professional audio visual systems or control platforms
Experience assisting with live events or event technology support
Experience working in higher education or a similar environment
Interest in developing a career in audio visual support and systems
