NATURALIST – Burchfield County Park, 881 Grovenburg Rd., Holt, MI 48842

The Seasonal Naturalist is responsible for assisting with the implementation of nature education programs at Burchfield Park. Working as part of a team from June through August, Naturalists engage, entertain, and educate visitors of all ages through hands-on outdoor and environmental activities. Program participants hike, use watercraft, create arts and crafts, and take part in a variety of outdoor adventures.

Essential Functions

• Must be available to work early mornings to late afternoons Monday-Friday, June through mid-August. May also be required to work occasional weekends.
• 1 year experience working with children is required and some experience planning and developing youth programs and/or daily lesson plans is preferred.
• Person must communicate with children and adults in a clear, concise manner and be adept at managing interpersonal conflict.
• Must be energetic and friendly, flexible and adaptable in order to provide the best participant experience possible.
• Applicant must be a team player who can coordinate with other naturalist, parents, and park staff in order to ensure participant safety and a positive experience. 
• Must have strong organizational and time management skills.
• Academic coursework in science and/or education is preferred, but strong personal interest and experience in these fields will also be welcomed.
• Applicants must have a valid Michigan Driver’s License and dependable transportation and are required to pass criminal background checks.
• Opportunity will be provided to earn Pediatric and Adult CPR/AED/First Aid, Bloodborne Pathogen Certification.  Certification is required before sessions start and is a condition of employment.

Age and Physical Requirements

Applicants must be at least 18 years of age. Employees must be physically able to walk various types of terrain, handle exposure to all types of weather, walk and stand for long periods, and have the capacity to lift various weights in excess of 50 pounds.

Demonstrates effective communication skills by engaging, interacting and working with all individuals to ensure clarity and understanding in all interactions.

Starting Wage: $17.00/hour
