The role of the Area Business Engineer (ABE) is to ensure production plans are optimized and scheduled to maximize profit and minimize losses for the Area Business Team (ABT). The ABE interfaces with Supply Chain and serves as a key interface between the plant and the business supply strategy. The Area Business Engineer also uses their technical knowledge and experience to analyze the financial performance of the Area Business Team and develop improvement solutions.
Responsibilities:
Define and communicate production plan for the Area Business Team that aligns with business priorities and takes into consideration maintenance activities (work with OMG) and project implementation (work with
Performance Engineer).
Own and update the production capacities for the ABT in alignment with Supply Chain planning processes and tools.
Partner with Supply Chain in long-term production planning, and shipments of both raw material and products.
Work closely with the Production Data Analysis (PDA) or Production Coordinator to improve inventory accuracy, raw material planning and cost optimization.
Own Cost of Manufacturing tool (AI) and provide manufacturing input to Supply Chain for Margin Impact Tool (F&P) to understand margin/conversion cost and adjust production plan to minimize losses and maximize profits.
Ownership of plant costs and lead cost analysis to develop plant cost strategy /objectives / goals.
Work with Business Analyst Manager to define and execute cost driven improvement projects.
Area Business Team focal point for Manage and Implement Supply Change (M&ISC) and Raw Material Trial Projects. Project responsibilities can be shared with other ABT members, but the ABE serves as the focal point with Supply Chain.
Ensure Master Data is updated, provide manufacturing inputs, and manage reviews of this data per schedule with Supply Chain (BOM, Routing Rate, and Safety Stock).
Works with Schedule Execution to resolve exceptions to production schedules which are not covered by Business rules; communicate with partners, facilitates the resolution, understands impact on customer and develops the plan of action.
Communicate with supply chain providing manufacturing input for S&OE planning meetings.
Interface between Segment Tech Advisor / Regional F&P Leader and the Area Business Team aligning on goals and targets - specifically ensuring the BRP is translated to the ARP within the facility.
Evaluate performance of the plant against production plan and cost and contribute to improvement idea submissions.
Perform project definition and execution roles as needed for the success of projects as agreed to with the Project Manager such as (but not limited to):
FEL0 engineering, Project Development Leader, Startup / Commissioning Leader, etc.
Serve as a technical expert at the facility and provide coaching to others within the ABT (demonstrating the Share Knowledge and Expertise behavior).
As part of AOPS work process, ensure KPI's align to business objectives and plant strategies.
Review and update KPI's based on ABT goals and lead the development of new KPI's to drive desired performance.
Ensure quality deviations are monitored and processed appropriately.
Promote proactive equipment problem identification and demonstration of the "Find True Root Cause" behavior.
Lead Root Cause Investigations per trigger criteria to ensure preventative actions are implemented.
Work with Performance Engineer to ensure operating plan and reliability issues are coordinated.
Support the successful application of site policies, management system compliance and applicable EHS standards at the site and within the ABT. Be an influential leader in demonstrating strong commitment to safety and compliance.
Qualifications
7 years' manufacturing experience
4-year engineering degree, preferably in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering
Strong leadership, coaching and communication skills
Technical excellence
High degree of ownership
Desire to engage with operating team
Ability to think strategically, remove barriers, and make decisions
Commitment to Process Safety with demonstrated knowledge in Process Knowledge Management, Operating Procedures, Safe Work Practices, Operational Readiness, Conduct of Operations, and Incident Investigations
Preferred Experience
Experience in the Performance Engineer role
Experience in multiple ABTs
Experience and knowledge with process control and automation systems.
Solid understanding of costs, budgeting and overall financial acumen
Continuous Improvement and Six Sigma foundational knowledge
Experience and knowledge within Continuous Improvement and Six Sigma is preferred within this role. Green Belt certification (from Corteva or heritage companies) is preferred and progression to Black Belt is optional.
