Job Summary:
The Paint Technician is responsible for independently performing all paint operations at the highest level of quality and efficiency. This role supports production goals by executing complex paint processes, maintaining paint equipment and work areas, troubleshooting defects, and ensuring compliance with work instructions and quality standards. The Paint Technician serves as a technical leader within the paint department.
Essential Functions:
Perform all paint duties independently with no supervision, including all responsibilities of Paint Technician Levels 1 and 2
Apply paint to small and large components using spray, roll, brush, and touch-up processes to meet quality standards
Read, interpret, and follow work instructions, drawings, and specifications
Mix all paint and nonskid types according to process requirements
Operate fork trucks and overhead cranes safely and efficiently
Tear down, rebuild, and maintain paint guns and auxiliary equipment, including mixers, 2K systems, and pressure pots
Maintain paint gun and auxiliary equipment workstations, ensuring proper cleanliness and availability of replacement parts and supplies
Maintain paint kitchens, rotate stock, and complete reorder documentation for supervisory review
Troubleshoot paint defects and process issues and recommend corrective actions
Maintain paint booth filters, perform scheduled changes, and complete required documentation
Perform washer, Alodine, and phosphate titrations as a backup for Quality Inspection
Train and mentor paint team members on paint operations, processes, and standards
Lead the touch-up area and ensure all requirements are met without supervision
Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and management
Positively influence others, lead groups to complete tasks, and follow up to ensure production goals are achieved
Work any assigned shift and overtime as required to meet production demands
Minimum Qualifications:
Oral and written communication skills
Working knowledge of industrial paint processes, equipment, and materials
Familiarity with quality standards, nonconformance identification, and corrective actions
Proven ability to operate paint equipment, fork trucks, and cranes
Strong leadership, teamwork, and mentoring skills
Ability to work independently with minimal direction
Ability to work any shift and overtime as required
Education & Experience
High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required
Minimum of five (5) years of paint experience and/or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Demonstrated proficiency in spray, roll, brush, and touch-up paint processes
Background Prerequisites:
Must undergo and meet company standards for background check, employment verification, reference checks, physical, and controlled substance testing.
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced experience with industrial or manufacturing paint systems
Experience leading or mentoring other paint technicians
Fork truck and crane certification
