As a member of the health care team, perform all necessary in-patient or out-patient pharmaceutical duties to ensure optimal patient outcomes. Implement the most recent concepts of pharmaceutical care and drug utilization. All work is accomplished in accordance with the policies and regulations of local, state, and federal authorities, as well as, accepted standards of practice.
- Prepare and dispense medication, chemotherapy, IV mixtures, and other pharmaceuticals according to accepted standards of practice.
- Verify accuracy of all medications prepared for dispensing.
- Collaborate clinically with physicians or other health care professionals when necessary and appropriate.
- Oversee and use proper techniques for sterile compounding.
- Serve as a drug information resource to physicians, nurses, and other members of the health care team.
- Assist in maintaining an acceptable inventory level of medication and supplies under proper storage conditions and security.
- Assign, teach, and monitor the work of technicians, students, etc.
- Accurately interprets and enters the physician orders into the computer, follows formulary control policy and procedures, and provides drug information as requested.
