SUMMARY OF POSITION:
The Load/Operator & Scalehouse Clerk is responsible for overseeing all daily activities at the TG Kalamazoo location. This hybrid role serves as the primary point of contact for customers and drivers, managing the end-to-end process of weighing vehicles, operating heavy equipment to load products, and maintaining accurate inventory and financial records. The ideal candidate is a self-motivated professional who balances technical machinery operation with strong administrative accuracy and excellent customer service.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Scale Operations & Documentation: Operate truck scales to accurately weigh loaded and empty vehicles. Record weight data, product types, and customer information into the scale management system. Ensure all transactions are documented and invoices/tickets are generated accurately.
- Equipment Operation & Loading: Operate loaders and lifts safely and efficiently to load customers with product. Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment. Always perform duties with proper PPE and safety awareness.
- Inventory & Financial Management: Monitor stock levels and coordinate with top buying customers. Manage credit and check transactions, ensuring accuracy in payment collection. Maintain daily records of sales and truck activity.
- Customer Service: Greet drivers, provide clear site instructions, and address inquiries professionally. Act as a backup for incoming calls from the main switchboard and communicate with dispatch to resolve discrepancies.
- Site Maintenance & Safety: Keep the scale house and yard clean and organized to ensure a safe environment for staff and customers. Ensure drivers comply with site safety protocols and report any incidents to the Supervisor or HR.
- Administrative Support: Prepare daily/weekly reports for management as needed. Attend company-sponsored training and meetings.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS / QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience: Proven experience in operations or site management, ideally within the aggregate or construction industry.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in operating heavy machinery (loaders/lifts) and basic computer literacy for scale management software and data entry.
- Physical & Mental Fitness: Ability to perform equipment maintenance, operate machinery for extended periods, and maintain the emotional/physical fitness required for a fast-paced outdoor environment.
- Communication: Strong ability to read, write, and follow complex oral and written instructions. High-level customer service and conflict-resolution skills.
- Detail Orientation: Extreme accuracy in data entry and financial transactions.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Professionalism: Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and personal standards of appearance/dress code compatible with company standards.
