Controller
We are seeking a seasoned, strategic Controller for a direct hire position to serve as a cornerstone of our financial operations for a company in Midland, MI. Reporting directly to the Chief Operations Officer (COO), you will oversee all finance, accounting, and reporting activities. This is a high-impact leadership role where you will partner with the CFO and senior leadership to integrate finance, HR, and IT functions, ensuring our systems and procedures are robust, compliant, and ready for growth.
Key Responsibilities
Financial & Accounting Leadership
- Systems Oversight: Direct all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems to ensure 100% compliance with GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
- Controls & Safeguards: Maintain rigorous internal controls for revenue receipts, costs, and expenditures.
- Audit Management: Coordinate all audit activities and serve as the primary point of contact for financial inquiries.
- Strategic Reporting: Analyze financial data and present accurate, timely monthly, quarterly, and annual statements to senior leadership.
- Budgeting & Planning: Lead the annual budgeting process, identifying and correcting variances to keep the organization on track.
- Cash Flow & Investments: Manage organizational cash flow forecasting and track the performance of invested assets in line with company policies.
Team & Collaborative Leadership
- Operational Excellence: Lead day-to-day operations across AP, AR, payroll, and grants administration.
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Work closely with program leaders to educate them on financial procedures and explore how the finance function can best support operations.
- Culture: Foster a positive, supportive work environment and strengthen internal communications across all levels of the business.
Qualifications
- Experience: 5+ years of experience overseeing accounting and finance functions, specifically within a manufacturing environment. (Experience with stockholder-owned businesses is a plus).
- Education: Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field; CPA and/or MBA is highly preferred.
- Technical Proficiency: Technology-savvy with experience in selecting software, overseeing installations, and managing vendor relationships. Advanced knowledge of accounting/reporting software is required.

Compensation & Benefits
- Salary Range: $60,000 – $70,000 per year.
