Environmental Services Technician (EVS) / Housekeeper

Trinity Health Oakland Hospital is seeking a dedicated Environmental Services Technician (EVS) to help maintain a safe, clean, and sanitary environment for patients, visitors, and staff. This role is essential to supporting infection prevention, patient safety, and overall hospital operations.
Position Summary
The EVS Technician performs routine and detailed cleaning, disinfecting, and sanitation tasks throughout the hospital, following established procedures and regulatory guidelines. This position supports patient care areas, common areas, offices, and specialized clinical environments while collaborating with EVS Leadership and the Logistics Center to meet daily operational needs.
What You Will Do
Daily Cleaning & Sanitation
- Perform cleaning and disinfection in patient rooms, clinical areas, offices, and hospital spaces.
- Clean restrooms, floors, vents, walls, baseboards, windows, and high-touch areas.
- Strip and make beds; complete discharge and occupied patient room cleaning.
- Clean isolation rooms using proper infection control procedures, including curtain changes.
- Vacuum carpeted areas; dust and damp mop hard floors.
- Empty, clean, disinfect, and reline waste and linen containers.
Special Tasks
- Clean and disinfect IV poles, portable commodes, and similar equipment.
- Dismantle beds, isolettes, and cribs as needed.
- Maintain cleanliness of trash rooms, staging areas, and compactor locations.
- Utilize specialized equipment such as Xenex or other disinfection systems.
- Return supplies, equipment, and tools to correct storage areas at end of shift.
Safety & Compliance
- Demonstrate safe use, handling, and dilution of all cleaning chemicals.
- Follow all hospital, state, and federal regulatory guidelines for environmental safety.
- Use proper body mechanics when lifting, bending, stooping, and pushing objects up to 35 lbs.
- Remain in assigned work areas unless given direction by a supervisor.
- Report on-the-job incidents and unsafe conditions promptly.
Professional Conduct
- Report to work on time, in proper uniform, and prepared to work in assigned areas.
- Use hospital-issued technology (email, bed tracking systems) with assigned passwords.
- Communicate effectively with patients, visitors, and hospital staff while respecting dignity and privacy.

Qualifications
Education
- High school diploma or GED preferred
- Ability to read and write required
Skills & Aptitudes
- Strong customer service skills and ability to work well with patients, staff, and visitors
- Ability to work at a vigorous pace with frequent bending, stooping, and lifting
- Ability to push, pull, or move items weighing up to 35 lbs
- Willingness to learn and perform varied tasks

- Ability to make safe decisions for the wellbeing of patients and staff
Experience
- Previous housekeeping or environmental services experience in a healthcare setting preferred
