Serve as key customer interface (internal and external) who can successfully negotiate and influence engineering design direction for optimum feasibility and cost. Help define and incorporate customer requirements and product specifications into the engineered design of the designated products, ensuring compliance with operational, cost, timing, safety, reliability, quality and manufacturing feasibility parameters and government regulations. Analyze products and formulate engineering conclusions by the application of engineering and/or mathematical principles and tools. Apply Quality Function Deployment (QFD), Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA), Design of Experiments (DOE), Pugh Analysis, Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE), and Design for Manufacturing/Design for Assembly (DFM/DFA) in the development of the product. Write/compile engineering content for the following deliverables: engineering specifications and documentation, including DVP&R’s, 8D’s, GD&T, BOM, prototype control plans, key product characteristics, engineering changes and work orders. Consult and collaborate with personnel in various engineering and design activities relative to product development requirements. Conduct effective communications within the project team and the customer, supplier, manufacturing and quality communities with guidance from engineering management and senior engineering personnel. Maintain all appropriate documentation. Provide engineering support to design personnel. Review and approve engineering designs. Review, approve, complete, and submit required change notices to ensure design outputs meet design inputs. Design automotive seating components (trim cover, foam, plastic, metal, and mechanisms) using knowledge of the full product development cycle; create DVP (Design Verification Plan) and DFMEA (Design Failure Mode Effect Analysis); support PFMEA (Process Failure Mode Effect Analysis) and Control Plan requirements for both product and process; use Six Sigma tools (Pareto charts, fishbone diagrams, 5 Whys, DFMEA, Control Charts, Value Stream Mapping, etc.) to verify product and process efficiency; perform Cpk (Process Capability Index) analysis to identify compatibility between design and production/assembly processes; utilize CATIA V5 for 2D and 3D seating system product design; apply GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) principles; develop 2D product drawings including tolerance concepts; and conduct stack-up analysis to verify product design compatibility using methods such as Worst Case, Robust, and RSS (Root Sum Square), as well as RCA (Root Cause Analysis) and 8D methodology. Perform other duties as assigned.
