Detroit Community Schools is hiring a full time Attendance Liaison.

Essential Duties
A successful Attendance Liaison is responsible for assisting the academy with achieving academic and student/school culture and climate goals. Good attendance directly correlates to improved student performance and student growth. Excessive truancy and tardiness impede students' ability to consistently participate in the learning environment. Additionally, school-home partnerships are essential to student success. The Liaison is responsible for tracking school-wide and individual student attendance.
Additionally, the liaison is responsible for identifying barriers and working with the leadership team, school staff, students, and families to develop strategies to overcome barriers to good attendance. A successful Liaison will work collaboratively with leadership teams, classroom teachers, students, and staff to improve student attendance and overall student outcomes.
Roles and Responsibilities
? Work closely with building administrators to provide support for truant students.
? Analyze information gained through record reviews and interviews to determine environmental impacts and appropriate resource needs; integrate gained information into a report that includes school-wide and individual support plans.
? Maintain an ongoing liaison with community agencies and other resources to meet student needs; refer parents and students to agencies when appropriate.
? Involve guardians/parents/families in the educational activities of the program: (1) to emphasize their role as the principal influence on the child's education and development, and (2) to assist parents/families to increase their knowledge, understanding, skills, and experience in basic child development.
? Assist other service areas of the program with direct and indirect services.
? Provides community resources for families.
? Participates in student recruitment and retention initiatives.
? Participate in professional development, maintain applicable certification and qualifications, and keep current in effective research-based best practices for addressing truancy issues.
? Establishes a professional relationship of trust and rapport with the families of the children and maintains professional boundaries in the best interest of students and the school.
? Serve on student support teams and building committees at assigned schools.
? Review student records to identify previous barriers and/or interventions.
? Responsible for all other duties as assigned.
? Provides daily, weekly, and monthly attendance reports to the school leadership.
? Establishes attendance goals and the remedies to attain those attendance goals.
Qualifications
Individuals in this position must be able to apply effective supervision methods. A Liaison is responsible for the supervision of students. In addition, the Liaison may be required to supervise parents or community members during meetings, volunteer activities, or committee meetings.
Planning & Implementation
An effective employee in this position will be able to provide initiative, support, and assistance to improve school-wide and individual student-level attendance. The Liaison must also possess exceptional planning and organization skills. The Liaison must be an active participant in implementing solutions to truancy issues or barriers to school attendance. The liaison plays a critical role in seeking out community resources to help students and their families overcome barriers to school attendance.
Knowledge & Expertise
Qualified employees in this position will be knowledgeable about all communication methods, including email and phone, and will actively respond to inquiries from community resources. The Liaison must also be able to manage a variety of documents while maintaining legality and confidentiality. In addition, the Liaison must be able to implement programs that promote regular attendance and student success.
Reasoning Ability
An employee in this position must be able to effectively draw conclusions based on their ability to identify problems, collect information, and establish facts. In addition, an individual in this position will possess the ability to provide both logical and abstract solutions in standard and non-standard situations.
Interpersonal Qualities
A qualified employee in this position will possess outstanding oral and written communication skills. This employee must have the ability to provide effective responses to all inquiries from all parties, including students, parents, staff, Partner Solutions, and the community. An employee in this position must also be able and willing to work with staff and administration to problem solve.

Education & Experience
It is the employee's responsibility to understand and fulfill any license and training obligations specific to the position and/or for equipment that will be operated.

To successfully perform the essential duties of this job, the employee must be able to meet the following physical demands:
• Occasionally required to lift and/or move objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
• Required to often stand and walk.
• Must be willing and able to withstand all demands presented by outside weather conditions at any time of the year.
• A moderate noise level is typically present.
